Scion Nonprofit Staffing has been engaged to conduct a search for an experienced Finance Director - Nonprofit for a mission-driven nonprofit organization in Portland, Oregon. This is a full-time, direct-hire, onsite opportunity with the opportunity to serve as the organization's senior financial leader and strategic partner to the CEO, Executive Team, and Board Finance Committee.
POSITION OVERVIEW
The Finance Director will provide strategic and operational leadership across the organization's finance function, overseeing financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, cash flow, audits, internal controls, grants, and long-term financial planning. Reporting directly to the CEO, this leader will translate complex financial information into actionable insights and partner closely with executive leadership and the Board Finance Committee to support organizational sustainability, effective decision-making, and mission impact.
The ideal candidate brings significant nonprofit financial leadership experience, strong knowledge of 501(c)(3) accounting and GAAP, and demonstrated success leading strategic financial planning and presenting financial information to executive and Board-level stakeholders.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Lead the organization's overall financial strategy, accounting operations, budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, and long-term financial planning.
Oversee accurate and timely financial reporting while ensuring compliance with GAAP, nonprofit accounting requirements, internal controls, and organizational policies.
Lead annual budget development, financial forecasting, audit preparation, Single Audit (A-133) reporting, and grant-related financial management.
Serve as a strategic financial partner to the CEO and Executive Team, providing analysis, recommendations, and data-driven insights to support organizational decision-making.
Prepare and present financial results, forecasts, risks, and strategic recommendations to the Board Finance Committee and other key stakeholders.
Strengthen financial systems, policies, controls, and processes while identifying opportunities to improve operational efficiency and support long-term financial sustainability.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field required.
7+ years of progressive finance and accounting leadership experience, including significant senior-level financial responsibility.
Minimum 2 years of nonprofit leadership experience with strong knowledge of 501(c)(3) accounting, GAAP, budgeting, forecasting, audits, and financial management.
Demonstrated experience leading strategic financial planning and presenting financial information to executive leadership and Board/Finance Committee stakeholders.
Advanced Microsoft Excel skills with experience utilizing general ledger, financial reporting, budgeting, and forecasting systems; Single Audit (A-133) reporting experience strongly desired.
COMPENSATION AND LOCATION
This is a full-time, exempt, direct-hire position offering an annual salary of $122,000-$138,000, depending on experience. The position is onsite in Southeast Portland, Oregon, with free parking provided. Standard business hours apply, with occasional evening Board and Finance Committee meetings.
