Job Description
The Finance Director provides strategic leadership, direction, oversight, and administration of the Finance Unit for the Brevard County Sheriff's Office, actively mentoring and coaching team members to foster professional growth and high performance. This position cultivates a supportive culture of inclusiveness, camaraderie, and collaboration, inspiring staff to work together effectively to achieve organizational goals.
Additionally, the Finance Director is responsible for managing all accounting operations and ensuring timely, accurate payroll processing for all agency personnel. This position guides the team through compliant grant administration, detailed budgeting and forecasting, revenue administration, and transparent financial reporting in strict accordance with governmental accounting standards.
The Finance Director ensures fiscal integrity, transparency, and compliance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), applicable regulations, and agency policies while supporting the organizations mission and public service objectives. This role works closely with senior leadership, partner agency finance personnel, and external auditors to ensure fiscal accountability while supporting the operational needs of the Sheriff's Office.

Working Conditions: Work is primarily performed in an office environment. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required to complete assignments and attend Board of County Commission meetings. May require attendance at public meetings, other Sheriff's Office facilities throughout the County, budget workshops, and audit reviews.
Physical and dexterity requirements: Requires sedentary work involving sitting most of the time; with occasional walking or standing; ability to lift and carry light items, typically up to 10-15 pounds; frequent use of hands and fingers for typing, data entry, and operation of standard office equipment.
Environmental hazards: No significant exposure to environmental hazards.
Sensory requirements: The job requires the ability to read and analyze detailed financial documents and computer screens, and to communicate effectively, through hearing and speaking.
