Job Description

SUMMARY DESCRIPTION

The Finance Manager is the primary FP&A leader for Concrete Strategies, responsible for building and owning the financial planning, analysis, and reporting functions that connect profit centers and department leaders. This role serves as the critical bridge between regional operations, department leaders, and the VP of Finance and Cost Management — translating operational performance into financial intelligence and ensuring leaders at every level have accurate, timely, and actionable information.

This position reports to the VP of Finance and Cost Management and directly manages the Financial Analyst(s). The Finance Manager is accountable for the accuracy and cadence of all forecasting, budgeting, overhead reporting, billing oversight, and corporate financial reporting processes within the Finance department.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

FP&A Ownership and Leadership

  • Own the Area, Regional, and Department financial planning and analysis function for Concrete Strategies, including annual budgeting, rolling forecasts, sales projections, overhead planning, and variance analysis.
  • Serve as the company’s FP&A subject matter expert, establishing consistent methodologies, reporting cadences, and analytical standards across all regions and business units.
  • Manage and develop Financial Analyst(s), providing direction, review, and accountability for all analyst-level deliverables.
  • Partner with the VP of Finance and Cost Management to develop and continuously improve financial reporting frameworks, planning processes, and analytical tools.
  • Ensure all FP&A outputs are accurate, timely, and presented in a format that enables executive decision-making.

    Profit Center Engagement andReporting

  • Act as the primary point of contact between profit center leaders — Regional Leaders, Area Leaders, and Business Unit EVPs — and the Finance department for all forecasting, planning, and financial reporting needs.
  • Proactively engage profit center leaders to collect financial inputs, validate assumptions, and ensure forecasts reflect current operational realities.
  • Compile, consolidate, and reconcile financial information across multiple regions, areas, overhead accounts, and specialty services into a single, cohesive company-level view.
  • Translate operational data into clear financial narratives that help field and executive leaders understand performance against plan.
  • Establish and maintain a consistent reporting rhythm — monthly, quarterly, and annual — across all profit centers and overhead accounts.
  • Identify discrepancies, anomalies, or risks in submitted data and work directly with profit center leaders to resolve them before final reporting.

    Forecasting, Budgeting, and Revenue Reporting

  • Lead the annual operating budget process and maintain rolling revenue, sales, and overhead forecasts at the corporate, regional, and departmental levels.
  • Conduct budget vs. actual vs. forecast variance analysis; communicate findings with clear explanations and recommended actions to the VP and executive team.
  • Oversee the Schedule of Values (SOV) process and manage over/under billing reporting, providing timely visibility into billing risk and revenue recognition gaps.
  • Partner with the Cost department to align revenue projections and monthly revenue spreads with project-level cost reporting.
  • Support board-level, lender, and ownership reporting by preparing accurate forecast packages and financial summaries.

Systems, Process Improvement, and Specialty Units

  • Support financial data integration within Procore and other systems; develop and maintain reporting templates, dashboards, and tools used by analysts and profit center leaders.
  • Identify opportunities to standardize and improve reporting processes, reduce manual effort, and ensure data integrity across all financial outputs.
  • Work with Specialized Business Units to develop financial processes and policies that align with company standards and work to integrate into the overall business forecasting and reporting.

    JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES / BEHAVIORS

  • Communicates financial information clearly to both finance and non-finance audiences; translates complexity into actionable insight.
  • Builds trust with profit center leaders as a reliable financial partner, proactively engaging rather than waiting to be asked.
  • Operates with a high degree of accuracy and identifies risks or anomalies in data before they reach leadership.
  • Manages competing priorities and reporting deadlines with organizational discipline and urgency during close cycles.
  • Leads Financial Analyst(s) with clear expectations and genuine investment in their development.
  • Continuously improves processes and tools, reducing manual effort and raising reporting quality.
  • Demonstrates financial integrity, maintains confidentiality, and takes full ownership of the FP&A function.
  • Ability to prepare and present complex information to Executive leadership effectively.

    EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE / ATTRIBUTES / REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Construction Management, or a related field required; MBA or CPA a plus.
  • 7-10+ years of progressive FP&A or corporate finance experience; construction or project-based industry experience strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to own a full FP&A function — budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, and management reporting.
  • Experience managing or mentoring Financial Analysts or junior finance team members.
  • Proficiency with financial modeling software; experience with Procore, Power BI, Tableau, Snowflake, JD Edwards (or other ERP systems).
  • Expert-level understanding of Microsoft Excel (Power Query, Power Pivot and data models, pivot tables, advanced formulas, scenario/sensitivity modeling, macro automation).
  • Working knowledge of relational databases and SQL, including writing and troubleshooting queries to extract and validate data from source systems.
  • Ability to structure and normalize financial data for database storage, building and maintaining a reliable historical data set that supports multi-year trend and variance analysis.
  • Strong understanding of construction project financials, including revenue recognition, WIP, billing, and cost reporting preferred.
  • Ability to engage operational leaders who are not finance professionals and make financial information accessible and actionable.
  • Self-motivated and detail-oriented with strong written and verbal communication skills; comfortable presenting to executive leadership.
