    Description

     Job Description:

Our client is a fast-growing, independent, and fee-only wealth management firm. They specialize in helping individuals age 50+ plan for and enjoy retirement by integrating investment management, retirement planning, and tax planning into one coordinated strategy. They are looking for an experienced Financial Advisor (CFP®) to serve as a primary advisor in their Richmond, VA office location to a growing roster of client families. This role is designed for a seasoned planner who loves building long-term relationships and helping people navigate retirement with clarity and confidence. This is a client advisory and service role. You'll build lasting relationships with families as they navigate some of the biggest financial decisions of their lives.

    Client-Facing Planning & Relationships

    • Serve as the primary advisor for client families, guiding them through retirement income planning, investment management, tax optimization, Social Security timing, Roth conversion analysis, and estate coordination.
    • Build deep, lasting relationships grounded in trust, proactive communication, and genuine care for each client's financial well-being.
    • Collaborate with our CPA on staff and associate advisors on complex planning situations.
    • This is the heart of the role — and the portion of your time dedicated to it grows as your client base grows.
    • As you grow your client base, your time naturally shifts toward the client relationships you've built. At full capacity (~100-115 households), the majority of your time is spent serving clients you know well, supported by a steady but smaller flow of new families joining the firm.

    Meeting with Prospective Clients

    • No cold calling. Prospects come to you.
    • Meet with qualified prospects who come to us through our marketing and referral network.
    • Learn about their goals, concerns, and financial situation, then walk them through how we work.
    • Help determine if we're the right fit for each other — no pressure, no sales tactics.
    • Your focus in year one is getting to know people and welcoming the right families into the firm.

    Professional Development & Collaboration

    • Participate in ongoing training and professional development — we're a team that likes to learn.
    • Collaborate with fellow advisors, our CPA, and the operations team on complex client situations.
    • Contribute to a culture of continuous improvement and high standards of client care.

    Required Qualifications

    • CFP® designation (active and in good standing).
    • 5+ years of direct experience in comprehensive financial planning and investment management serving affluent clients.
    • Deep knowledge of retirement income planning and wealth management for clients with $1M–$10M+ in investable assets.
    • Ability to clearly communicate the value of an evidence-based investment approach.
    • Communication Skills: You listen before you advise, write clearly, and build trust through competence and genuine care.
    • Team Mindset: You enjoy collaboration and believe the best work happens in a coordinated team.

    Preferred Qualifications (not required)

    • Experience with MoneyGuide Pro, Holistiplan, Tamarac, or Wealthbox. Prior experience at a fee-only RIA or independent advisory firm.
    • CPA, ChFC, EA, or other complementary designations.

    Benefits and Culture:

    • Competitive Base Salary from $100,000 - $130,000 depending upon level of experience and number of clients managed.
    • Quarterly Incentive: Revenue-sharing bonus tied to firm growth
    • Financial Wellness: 401(k) plan with employer match.
    • Comprehensive Health: Employer pays up to 75% of medical, dental, and vision premiums.
    • Paid Parental & Maternity Leave.
    • Dependent Care Account (FSA): Set aside pre-tax dollars for childcare expenses.
    • Time Off: Generous Paid Time Off (PTO) policy.
    • Professional Development: Budget and ongoing training to keep growing in your craft.
    • Hybrid Flexibility: 4 days in-office and 1 day remote.
    • Community: Matching gifts program to support the causes you care about.
