    Job Summary:

    Develop and facilitate payment plans for medical expenses; coordinate with patients and insurers. Interact with patients, physicians, and other members of a multi-disciplinary clinical team to create an exceptional patient experience. Performs administrative duties with patient registration operations in designated outpatient clinic settings.

    Job Description:

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Billing and Collections Support: Manage self-pay accounts, follow up on outstanding balances, and arrange payment plans in line with policy.
    • Cost Estimation and Financial Counseling: Provide pre-treatment cost estimates and explain deductibles, coinsurance, and co-payments to patients.
    • Insurance and Benefit Verification: Confirm insurance eligibility, benefits, and coverage limits before services are rendered.
    • Resolve coverage disputes and obtain necessary authorizations.
    • Support check-in and check-out processes for patients and schedule appointments/fill in when needed.
    • Weekly deposits for Wayne Health departments as needed.
    • Performs other related duties as assigned.

    Education, Licensure/Certification, and Training:

    • High school diploma or equivalent required.
    • Associate or Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred.
    • Experience in third-party billing preferred.

    Skills and Abilities:

    • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to handle sensitive financial discussions empathetically.  
    • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, and have a high level of customer service skills.
    • Knowledge of insurance policies, billing practices, and financial aid programs including insurance EOB/COB.
    • Proficiency in electronic medical records (EMR) and billing systems.
    • Attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
    • Ability to work independently.
    • Knowledge of medical terminology is preferred.
    • Travel to other locations if needed.

    Safety Requirements:

    • Compliance with Department Health and Safety policies and procedures.

    Working Conditions/Schedule:

    • 40-hour work week, hours, and days to be determined by the business needs of the department. Additional hours may be required.
