Job Summary:
Develop and facilitate payment plans for medical expenses; coordinate with patients and insurers. Interact with patients, physicians, and other members of a multi-disciplinary clinical team to create an exceptional patient experience. Performs administrative duties with patient registration operations in designated outpatient clinic settings.Job Description:
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Billing and Collections Support: Manage self-pay accounts, follow up on outstanding balances, and arrange payment plans in line with policy.
- Cost Estimation and Financial Counseling: Provide pre-treatment cost estimates and explain deductibles, coinsurance, and co-payments to patients.
- Insurance and Benefit Verification: Confirm insurance eligibility, benefits, and coverage limits before services are rendered.
- Resolve coverage disputes and obtain necessary authorizations.
- Support check-in and check-out processes for patients and schedule appointments/fill in when needed.
- Weekly deposits for Wayne Health departments as needed.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Education, Licensure/Certification, and Training:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Associate or Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred.
- Experience in third-party billing preferred.
Skills and Abilities:
- Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to handle sensitive financial discussions empathetically.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, and have a high level of customer service skills.
- Knowledge of insurance policies, billing practices, and financial aid programs including insurance EOB/COB.
- Proficiency in electronic medical records (EMR) and billing systems.
- Attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to work independently.
- Knowledge of medical terminology is preferred.
- Travel to other locations if needed.
Safety Requirements:
- Compliance with Department Health and Safety policies and procedures.
Working Conditions/Schedule:
- 40-hour work week, hours, and days to be determined by the business needs of the department. Additional hours may be required.
