Job Purpose:

  • The Financial Advocate at Crescent Community Health Center is responsible for assisting patients with financial guidance and support, ensuring they understand their billing and payment options. This role is crucial in helping patients navigate the complexities of healthcare costs, thereby promoting access to necessary medical services.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide comprehensive financial counseling to patients, helping them understand their billing statements and payment options.
  • Assist patients in applying for financial assistance programs, including Medicaid and other government-sponsored programs.
  • Collaborate with healthcare providers and administrative staff to ensure accurate billing and patient account management.
  • Utilize Epic/OCHIN or other electronic health records to track patient interactions and financial transactions.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of community health resources and financial assistance programs to effectively guide patients.
  • Act as a liaison between patients and insurance companies to resolve billing issues and discrepancies.
  • Conduct outreach and education sessions to inform patients about available financial resources and support services.
  • Ensure all financial advocacy activities comply with Crescent Community Health Center policies and relevant regulations.
  • Support bi-lingual patient populations by providing translation services and culturally sensitive financial guidance.
  • Participate in team meetings and contribute to the continuous improvement of financial advocacy services.

Required Education:

  • High School diploma or GED.

Required Experience:

  • Experience in a financial or customer service role, preferably within a healthcare setting.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations, providing financial guidance and support.
  • Proven track record of managing multiple tasks and priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience with Epic/OCHIN or another electronic health record.
  • Bi-lingual skills tailored to the patient population served.
  • Experience in a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC), community health center, ambulatory clinic, or safety-net healthcare setting.

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate financial information to patients.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and basic computer applications.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Capability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment.
