Financial Aid Counselor
St. Ambrose University is seeking a Financial Aid Counselor. The individual will provide front-line
financial aid support to prospective and current students and their families. This position assists with
processing financial aid applications and packages, serves as a resource for federal aid programs, and
supports Student Financial Services operations during peak service periods. The role involves frequent
public interaction and requires accuracy, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently with
minimal supervision.
Key Responsibilities:
· Counsel undergraduate, graduate, and online students on financial aid processes, including
FAFSA completion, loan applications, IRS documentation requests, and eligibility questions.
· Review and verify FAFSA information using federal income tax rules and federal
methodology; request documentation and submit corrections as needed.
· Package financial aid using federal and institutional guidelines and monitor variance reports to
ensure accurate awards.
· Keep current with Title IV regulations and assist students with Satisfactory Academic Progress
concerns. · Provide customer service support for phone calls, appointments, and walk-in traffic, especially during high-volume periods. · Reconcile monthly work-study payroll reports and assist with document imaging and indexing as needed. · Serve as a designated system end user, responsible for accurate data entry, running established reports, and maintaining data integrity. · Assist with special projects and other related duties as assigned. Qualifications: · Bachelor's degree and/or three (3) years of related experience. · Strong computer skills and ability to work accurately in data systems. · Effective communication and customer service skills. · Ability to work with minimal supervision in a fast-paced, student-focused environment.
