Mountain Gateway Community College (MGCC) is a two-year public institution of higher education and one of 23 community colleges in Virginia. We are seeking a compassionate, student-centered Financial Aid Liaison - Pell Grant Support to join our Student Services team. If you're passionate about helping students navigate financial aid, removing barriers to success, and making a lasting impact on your community, we encourage you to apply.

What You'll Do

As the Financial Aid Liaison, you'll work directly with Pell Grant-eligible students from application through graduation by providing personalized support, financial education, and proactive outreach that helps students remain enrolled and succeed.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Guiding students through the FAFSA, verification process, and financial aid requirements.
  • Helping students understand Pell Grant eligibility, award offers, deadlines, and renewal requirements.
  • Monitoring student progress and providing early intervention to students at risk of losing financial aid eligibility.
  • Serving as a key member of the college's student success and early alert initiatives.
  • Teaching financial literacy topics including budgeting, responsible borrowing, debt management, and financial wellness.
  • Connecting students with campus and community resources that address financial, academic, personal, and basic needs challenges.
  • Collaborating with faculty, advisors, admissions, registrar, business office, and student support services to create a seamless student experience.
  • Building relationships with local schools and community organizations to increase awareness of financial aid opportunities.
  • Planning and participating in orientations, financial aid events, recruitment activities, workshops, open houses, and community outreach events.
  • Maintaining accurate records, tracking program outcomes, preparing reports, and supporting the College's Pell Boost initiatives.
  • Ensuring compliance with all federal, state, institutional, and grant requirements.

Special Assignments

May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing and work effectively with multi-cultural populations that support diversity, cultural understanding and inclusion
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks; work in a demanding, fast-paced environment with changing priorities; and adhere to required timelines meeting work priorities and objectives
  • Demonstrated proficiency using Office 365, Google Suite, and similar applications
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Desire to learn and grow in the role
  • Ability to track program outcomes, set measurable objectives, and work toward those targets

Education: Education in related field or a combination of equivalent education and experience

Experience: Demonstrated experience in fields such as higher education, financial aid, counseling, social services, education, or related areas.

Additional Considerations

  • Work experience in higher education areas such as financial aid, academic/career coaching, or advising
  • Experience using tools such as EAB Navigate, PeopleSoft SIS, & Canvas
