Responsible for placing safety as #1 priority in day to day work routine for self and others. Assist in the analysis and reporting of financial transactions and statistics for MDU Resources Group, Inc., its utility divisions, and subsidiaries. Assist in development and implementation of accounting procedures and systems to assure proper and effective financial reporting and compliance; and provide research and accounting assistance to others. Provide accounting, finance and analytical support in the verification, control and processing of work activities in respective area. Prepare monthly, quarterly, annual and periodic financial statements, analyses, reports and data requests for management, internal departments and external entities. Complete the day-to-day activities, calculations, reconciliations and analyses necessary to perform periodic financial accounting closes. Assist in the coordination, preparation and administration of the annual capital and O&M budgets, the Operating Plan and the five-year Financial Forecast. Recommend enhancements to accounting policies, procedures and information systems. Assist with compliance to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Sarbanes Oxley (SOX) and to the FERC Chart of Accounts.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Financial Analyst I ($57,110 - $ 71,390):
- Must possess a working knowledge of accounting fundamentals and principles at a level normally acquired through the completion of a four-year degree in accounting, finance or related field.
Financial Analyst II ($63,860 - $79,830):
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field; and
- Two years' related accounting/finance experience.
Financial Analyst III ($73,460 - $91,830):
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field; and
- Four years' related accounting experience, with a minimum of two years' experience in financial analysis.
Financial Analyst IV ($84,460 - $105,570):
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field; and
- Six years' experience in financial analysis and evaluation techniques.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- CPA or professional certification desired.
- JD Edwards and utility accounting experience.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
- Must take all measures necessary to protect networks, devices, programs and data from cyber-attack, damage or unauthorized access.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States, no sponsorships considered.
- May be required to maintain a valid driver's license.
- Subject to pre-employment drug testing and background checks.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Prepare various monthly, quarterly and annual financial and/or accounting-related reports. Assist in the gathering of other data as requested.
- Prepare, process and analyze monthly, quarterly and annual financial and/or accounting information and transactions.
- Provide assistance in the development, maintenance and upgrading of the accounting systems, web applications and electronic data.
- Develop and enhance reports and/or spreadsheets utilized in data gathering.
- Assure compliance with Federal, State, and regulatory reporting requirements.
- Provide assistance in the development and updating of assigned accounting manuals.
- Performs other tasks and special projects as assigned.
Additional to the above, Financial Analyst III:
- Complete and/or coordinate various monthly, quarterly and annual financial and/or accounting-related transactions, reports and data requests.
- Provide guidance and training to others to ensure compliance and proper application of Federal, State, and regulatory reporting requirements.
- Make recommendations and assist with the enhancements of existing accounting systems and development of future systems, which will enhance capabilities and/or increase efficiencies. Develop and enhance processes and procedures utilized in data gathering.
- Research accounting issues or problems and make recommendations to appropriately resolve such issues or problems.
- Provide training and coordinate the work of others in the development and implementation of accounting procedures as applicable.
- Coordinate activities between the Financial Accounting staff and other areas/departments of the company to assure financial objectives are consistent with the corporation's overall strategic objectives.
- Direct special projects/requests of the Financial Accounting department as applicable.
- Assist management in providing leadership to the Financial Accounting department.
- Maintain appropriate documentation of financial accounting information and evaluate, recommend and implement procedures for more efficient/accurate methods.
- Assist in establishing, maintaining and enhancing accounting control systems and procedures.
- Establish and maintain effective relationships within the organization and with external auditors to provide accurate financial data.
Additional to the above, Financial Analyst IV:
- Research and evaluate highly complex department and/or accounting issues. Recommend and implement procedures and/or solutions.
- Maintain broad knowledge of department activities and the functional relationships between other departments/areas within the organization to ensure proper financial reporting and compliance.
