The Fountain Group is a national staffing firm and we are currently seeking a ­­­­­­­­Financial Analyst II for a prominent client of ours.  This position is in Irvine, CA 92612. Details for the position are as follows:

Financial Analyst

Location: Irvine, CA (or client-designated location)
Duration: Contract
Schedule: Full-Time

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Financial Analyst to support a Business Technology Solutions organization. This individual will play a critical role in managing portfolio financials, technology budgets, procurement activities, forecasting, and financial reporting across a dynamic project portfolio.

The ideal candidate will combine strong financial acumen with advanced analytical skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with Technology, Finance, Procurement, and Business stakeholders. This position requires experience managing both project and operational budgets, strong SAP expertise, and advanced Microsoft Excel skills. 

Key Responsibilities

Financial Planning & Portfolio Management

  • Manage financial activities across a portfolio of technology projects and operational budgets.
  • Monitor and maintain capital plans, functional budgets, run-the-business (RTB) budgets, and ongoing operational costs.
  • Develop financial forecasts, latest best estimates (LBEs), and variance analyses.
  • Support long-range planning, capital planning, and budget development activities.
  • Prepare financial reports and presentations for business and technology leadership.
  • Facilitate monthly financial review meetings and provide recommendations to stakeholders.

Budgeting & Financial Analysis

  • Track approved projects, authorized funding, and project expenditures.
  • Monitor projects spend and budget phasing to ensure alignment with approved plans.
  • Perform reconciliations across SAP, project management tools, and financial reporting systems.
  • Support Requests for Capital Expenditure (RCE) preparation and approval processes.
  • Analyze project and operational financial performance and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Manage variance reporting and support monthly budget review processes.

Procurement & Vendor Financial Management

  • Create and manage purchase orders for professional services and software licensing.
  • Track vendor spending across project and operational funding sources.
  • Partner with Accounts Payable to resolve invoice and billing issues.
  • Support Statement of Work (SOW) compliance and procurement governance requirements.
  • Coordinate purchase order creation, tracking, extensions, and closures.

Financial Operations Support

  • Process journal entries and capitalization requests.
  • Manage project chargebacks and review internal financial allocations.
  • Track project closeouts and capital expense approvals.
  • Generate SAP shopping carts and support procurement activities.
  • Assist with process improvements, financial controls, and compliance initiatives.
  • Support financial training and guidance for project teams and stakeholders.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner with Finance, Technology, Procurement, and Business teams to improve financial processes and reporting.
  • Communicate financial policies, procedures, and budget updates to stakeholders.
  • Support organizational initiatives focused on financial management optimization and process enhancements.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.
  • 3–5+ years of financial analysis experience.
  • Experience supporting technology organizations, IT portfolios, PMOs, or business operations teams.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, data analysis, and reporting.
  • Experience using SAP for financial management and reporting.
  • Strong PowerPoint presentation skills.
  • Experience managing budgets, forecasts, purchase orders, invoices, and cost centers.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to build relationships and collaborate across multiple functional teams.
  • High attention to detail and commitment to financial accuracy.
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently and manage competing priorities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Smartsheet.
  • Experience supporting project portfolio financial management.
  • Exposure to Clarity, Jira, or similar project management tools.
  • Experience within a highly regulated industry.
  • Experience supporting capital planning and technology budget management.
