Are you seeking meaningful work in a team and collaborative environment focused on helping shape the future of one of the nation’s premier research institutions?

If so, we invite you to apply for the position of Financial and Business Operations Analyst in the Business, Construction, and Facilities Department (BCFD) at the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL).

Who We Are:

BCFD is a dynamic department that provides critical business, financial, and operational services across APL, including contracts, procurement, accounting, financial planning, facilities design and construction, maintenance, planning, and logistics. As a Financial and Business Operations Analyst in our Finance Strategy and Operations Group, you will partner with department leadership to manage key elements of BCFD's operating and capital portfolios while delivering the financial analysis and business insights that support strategic decision-making. You'll be joining a fast-paced dynamic team of hardworking professionals who are committed to delivering quality data to our Senior leadership team. Your primary responsibility will be to prepare, review and analyze financial data, including performing monthly updates of project plans, highlighting financial spending and staffing trends, identifying anomalies and calculating financial projections.

As the Financial and Business Operations Analyst, you will...

  • Support the development and maintenance of budgets, forecasts, spend plans, and estimates at completion.
  • Analyze financial and operational data and help identify spending, staffing, usage, and performance trends.
  • Develop reports, dashboards, and presentations that clearly communicate financial and operational information.
  • Create and maintain WBS structures, charging guidance, and financial records in coordination with project managers and group leadership.
  • Review invoices, purchasing-card transactions, and other financial activity for accuracy, appropriate documentation, and compliance.
  • Monitor staff charging and financial performance, investigate anomalies, and help develop recommendations.
  • Provide oversight of the department’s full utility portfolio, including consumption, costs, budgets, forecasting, long-range requirements, and regular reporting on trends, risks, and performance.
  • Partner with Facilities staff on energy-management efforts, conservation opportunities, utility planning, and the financial implications of operational decisions.
  • Coordinate the department’s software portfolio, including requests, licenses, renewals, access, usage, costs, and associated records.
  • Identify opportunities to improve data quality, reduce manual work, and strengthen business processes.
  • Work across multiple assignments and priorities while communicating status, risks, and needed actions.
  • Thrive in a dynamic, mission-driven environment where priorities shift quickly.
Qualifications:

You meet our minimum qualifications if you...

  • Hold a Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, or related field.
  • Demonstrate strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including the ability to organize, analyze, and interpret data.
  • Experience working with complex datasets to organize, analyze, and draw meaningful insights from information.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, take initiative, and communicate effectively with internal customers and stakeholders.

You’ll go above and beyond if you...

  • Hold a Master’s degree (MBA or similar) in a relevant discipline.
  • Have strong analytical skills with the ability to model and forecast financial data.
  • Are experienced with APL Business Applications, Facilities Applications or comparable financial/project management systems.
  • Experience with Power BI, Tableau, SQL, or other business intelligence tools.
