Description

Sauk Valley Community College (SVCC) invites applications for the position of Financial Assistance Advisor - Work Study. This position advises students and performs technical office activities related to student financial assistance.

Located in rural northwestern Illinois along the scenic Rock River, SVCC is situated between the cities of Dixon and Sterling, placing it just one hour from Rockford and the Quad Cities, and two hours west of Chicago. Examples of Duties

Direct Student Support & Advising

  • Responsible for daily contact with parents, students, and community residents regarding federal, state, and institutional financial assistance questions, eligibility, and procedures.
  • Assist applicants in completing free application for Federal student aid, all applicable scholarship applications, Federal and State veteran benefit applications, and required Federal verification materials.
  • Assist with completion of entrance and exit loan counseling, including budget process and financial literacy, DAAR reports, etc.

Financial Aid Processing & Compliance

  • Review and complete financial aid applications, determine student eligibility, collect/enter data, and package award funds for payment of tuition, fees, books, and supplies based on federal, state, and institutional regulations.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all student records/files and comply with FERPA/GLB regulations.
  • Assist with the completion of non-verification and verification files and the monitoring of student life-time eligibility for PELL awards.
  • Assist supervisor with ensuring accuracy of return calculations for students who are subject to Federal return of Title IV fund policy using web software.

Program Management & Specialized Benefits

  • Responsible for Federal Work-Study processes, including awarding, monitoring student eligibility, and applying to student's accounts.
  • Responsible for hiring, training, and supervision of Federal Work-Study students for the College.
  • Act as an alternate certifying official for Veteran benefit information and certifications using VAONCE software.

Administration, Technology, & Communication

  • Assist with monitoring and updating the financial assistance portion of the SVCC website.
  • Compose correspondence and complete other College and government agencies financial aid related forms (e.g., Public Aid, Dislocated Workers, and BEST).
  • Assist with the maintenance of student files for the Student Services Center.
  • Assist with the timely completion of files; printing award and documentation tracking letters.
  • Assist with maintaining the Financial Assistance email and the social media presence for Financial Assistance.
  • Act as department liaison regarding FileBound and other SVCC based software and hardware issues.
  • Assist in maintaining and updating private scholarship postings on the website and in handbooks.

Supervisor Support & Strategy

  • Assist supervisor with monitoring standards of academic progress for award recipients.
  • Assist supervisor in identifying and improving electronic processes for Federal and State programs.
  • Assume all other reasonable professional duties and responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor.

  • Must be able to provide and understand verbal/visual orders and presentations from supervisors and to subordinates and the general public.

Technical & Office Skills

  • Must be able to operate office equipment proficiently.
  • Must be able to work with Microsoft Office products.

Teamwork & Flexibility

  • Must be able to work flexible hours including some evenings and weekends.
  • Must be able to work in a team environment.

Qualifications

  • Associate's degree and two (2) years of responsible office experience or equivalent education and experience required.
  • Experience with Ellucian Banner preferred.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to learn federal, state and institutional regulations.
  • Computer word processing, spreadsheet and data entry skills required.

Supplemental Information

Personal Interaction

Daily contact with College personnel, faculty, students, and the general public in the routine performance of duties and departmental services. Occasional contact with government organizations, lending agencies, and other colleges.

Supervision Exercised

Functional supervision is exercised over designated College work-study students.
