Seeking a highly skilled Financial Controller to oversee all accounting and financial operations for its U.S. branch supporting construction, installation, and elevator service markets. The organization operates across North America, Europe, Australia, and Asia with more than 2,450 employees and 11+ manufacturing facilities.
This role is a senior leadership position responsible for financial accuracy, operational partnership, and compliance within a public company environment. The Controller serves as a key financial partner to the Branch Manager, ensuring strong financial discipline, project profitability, and timely corporate reporting.
Job SummaryThe Financial Controller leads all accounting functions, oversees project financial performance, and ensures compliance with GAAP, IFRS considerations, internal controls, and corporate reporting standards. This is a hands on, high impact role requiring strong construction accounting expertise, job costing proficiency, and the ability to meet accelerated month end close timelines.

Essential Duties & ResponsibilitiesLead all accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger
Maintain accurate job costing and WIP schedules across construction and installation projects
Support financial tracking, reporting, and profitability analysis for service and maintenance operations
Perform monthly, quarterly, and year end close processes under strict corporate deadlines
Prepare and submit timely, accurate reporting packages to the parent company
Prepare monthly sales and use tax returns
Ensure compliance with GAAP, IFRS considerations, internal controls, and audit requirements
Coordinate with corporate finance and external auditors
Monitor cash flow and support budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning
Supervise a lean accounting team (one staff accountant + admin support)
Partner with the Branch Manager to:
Support daily operational decision making
Monitor project performance, margins, and service profitability
Assist with cost control, forecasting, and financial planning
Drive successful execution of construction and service projects
Review, interpret, and support execution of construction contracts, subcontracts, and change orders
Identify financial risks within contracts and ensure proper billing execution
Oversee AIA billings and project invoicing processes
Job costing, WIP reporting, and percentage of completion accounting
Variance analysis (labor, materials, equipment, overhead)
Productivity tracking and margin preservation
Early identification of cost overruns and risks
Gross margin analysis by project and division
Overhead allocation and recovery
Forecast accuracy and profitability improvement
Capitalization, depreciation, and utilization analysis
Lease vs. buy evaluations
Rolling forecasts and backlog analysis
Scenario modeling for cash flow, labor, and project risk
High attention to detail with strong business judgment
Integrity and accountability in high risk environments
Ability to operate in fast paced, deadline driven settings
Strong problem solving and decision making skills

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
7+ years of accounting experience, including senior level or Controller level responsibility
Strong construction accounting experience REQUIRED

Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
Proven experience managing month end close under strict deadlines
Experience with AIA billing and construction invoicing
Strong experience reviewing construction contracts and assessing financial risk
Demonstrated maturity and ability to partner with operations
CPA or CPA candidate
Experience in a public company or corporate reporting environment
Familiarity with IFRS
Experience preparing or supporting reporting packages for a parent company
Experience with construction or service based ERP systems
