Description
The Controller directs, manages, supervises, plans, and coordinates all activities and operations of an institutions major accounting divisions. Responsible for preparation of recurring and ad hoc financial reporting and related analysis work to support decision making for the institution.
Examples of Duties
The Controller is responsible for overseeing and coordinating the institutions day to day financial affairs in all major accounting divisions including: payroll and benefits, accounts payable and receivable, revenue collections, student loan collections, and external and internal financial reporting. Maintain the Universities Accounting system (Banner), schedule and review recurring and ad hoc financial reports, review and approve purchase requisitions, maintain policies and procedures, direct production of monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports, Final approval of all OASIS (State accounting system) documents. Responsible for coordination of the universitys financial system with the state system. Additional responsibilities include supervising and directing the work activities of accountants as well as other financial supporting staff assigned to the unit. Job responsibilities require advance knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and practices, in addition to auditing principles, financial reporting, accounting regulations and internal controls. Work is performed independently, by applying established standards through a broad and deep knowledge base of work acquired from several years of experience in this professional field. Problems faced in this position are varied, often complex, and involve multiple constituencies, often with competing priorities. Decisions have significant, broad implications for the management and operations of a division/entire institution as well as contribute to decisions on the overall strategy and direction of the entire institution.
Typical Qualifications
The candidate needs knowledge of accounting systems, internal controls and would preferably have experience in higher education, and non-profit. Degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Finance, or related field is required and CPA or advanced business degree preferred, with a minimum of 4 years supervisory experience and a "team-first" attitude, plus personal and professional skills for a management level position.

Retirement Plan: The college matches your 6 percent contribution (tax exempt dollars) towards TIAA/CREF or Teachers Retirement System. Thus, 12 percent of your gross salary is working for your retirement income. New employees must join TIAA/CREF.
TIAA Total Disability Benefits Plan: Optional employees coverage that provides (1) monthly income and (2) payments of premiums to your TIAA/CREF retirement plan to participating employees who suffer total, long-term disabilities. The cost is adjusted according to individual salary on a yearly basis. Employees become eligible upon completion of the first year of employment.
