Job Description

General Summary:

The Associate Director, FP&A is a key member of Vertex's Finance Business Partnering organization, providing financial leadership and strategic support to the U.S. Kidney team. As Vertex advances toward commercialization of its Kidney portfolio, this role will help shape and deliver near-term and long-term financial goals.

This position will play a critical role in supporting pre-launch contracting strategies and post-launch commercial revenue planning in the U.S., a priority market for the Kidney portfolio. The Associate Director will partner across Finance, Market Access, Commercial, Trade, and Analytics to deliver actionable insights, inform decision-making, and help define the key performance indicators that support business performance and patient access.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide financial leadership and strategic guidance to functional leaders supporting the U.S. Kidney business.
  • Support pricing and contracting proposals in partnership with Market Access, including scenario modeling, risk assessment, and mitigation planning.
  • Lead and support quarterly revenue forecasts, partnering with Market Access Analytics to validate inputs, identify trends, and generate forward-looking insights.
  • Review weekly sales performance and assess key drivers of short-term results in collaboration with Commercial Insights and Analytics.
  • Partner with Trade and Gross-to-Net Forecasting teams to evaluate inventory dynamics and support distribution strategy recommendations.
  • Develop and enhance performance tracking for key assumptions and metrics across actuals, budgets, and forecasts, including commercial decisions affecting gross-to-net.
  • Partner with the sample program coordinator and analytics team to optimize program impact and support an integrated budgeting process.
  • Ensure financial integrity, sound governance, and compliance across all areas of responsibility.
  • Help define and monitor business KPIs that support strategic decision-making and identify opportunities to expand patient access in the U.S.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Demonstrated experience in the pharmaceutical industry, including finance business partnering with senior or executive leaders.
  • Strong financial, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to evaluate complex business issues and investment decisions.
  • Experience with portfolio analysis, valuation, ROI/ROIC assessment, forecasting, and broader commercial finance support.
  • Strong communication, influencing, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively across senior leadership, Finance, and cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to lead through change in a dynamic business environment involving complex processes, multiple stakeholders, and tight timelines.
  • Proven ability to operate effectively in a cross-functional, matrixed, and global organization.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office and financial systems, including Hyperion.
  • Broad understanding of the pharmaceutical industry and the ability to address business challenges across functions.
  • Demonstrated leadership capability to build, lead, or develop high-performing business partnerships and teams.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelors degree in Finance, Accounting or an equivalent qualification.
  • Typically requires 8 years experience in a finance managerial role demonstrating strong technical and analytical skills or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • A track record of success working in a team-based environment.

Pay Range:

$156,000 - $234,000

Disclosure Statement:

The range provided is based on what we believe is a reasonable estimate for the base salary pay range for this job at the time of posting. This role is eligible for an annual bonus and annual equity awards. Some roles may also be eligible for overtime pay, in accordance with federal and state requirements. Actual base salary pay will be based on a number of factors, including skills, competencies, experience, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
