About the Role:
Turn your classroom learning into real-world impact with H&R Block’s Embark 2027 Summer Internship Program, open to students studying Finance, Economics, and Data Analytics. This 11-week paid internship offers meaningful, real-world experience that aligns with your field of study while making a valuable impact on our organization.
The Embark 2027 Summer Internship runs from May 17, 2027 – July 30, 2027.
You’ll work at our corporate headquarters in the heart of downtown Kansas City’s Power & Light District, where you’re just steps, or a streetcar ride, away from incredible restaurants, entertainment, and city energy. Inside our building, you’ll have access to amenities that make work-life balance easy, including an onsite Starbucks, a company dining hall with plenty of options, a free fitness center, and free parking!
Program Highlights:
- $25/hour compensation
- Paid PTO during H&R Block’s annual Reboot Week (June 28 – July 2)
- Housing stipend provided for students whose permanent address is more than 50 miles from the KC metro
The Financial Services Data Analytics & Strategy Intern will contribute to key strategic initiatives within H&R Block’s Financial Services line of business. This role offers exposure to product strategy, financial services innovation, and decision-making at the leadership level. The intern will be embedded within the Financial Services product team and will collaborate closely with product managers supporting Spruce, H&R Block’s emerging financial health platform (sprucemoney.com).
Throughout the 11-week internship, under the guidance of a leader, some of the internship responsibilities will include:
- Conduct research and analysis to support strategic and product decisions within the Financial Services business.
- Analyze customer, market, competitive, and financial data to identify trends, opportunities, and areas for further exploration.
- Help develop financial and analytical models that measure customer value, acquisition efficiency, engagement, and other key business metrics.
- Evaluate existing metrics and data, identify gaps, and help develop clear, decision-useful insights and recommendations.
- Partner with Product, Finance, Analytics, and other cross-functional teams to explore strategic opportunities and support key Financial Services initiatives.
- Synthesize research, data, and business discussions into clear presentations, models, and recommendations for leadership.
- Gain exposure to real-world business decisions and trade-offs while receiving mentorship and taking increasing ownership of assigned work.
Throughout the 11-week internship, as a part of the Embark program, interns will also participate in workshops and events that align with the program's four pillars:
Professional Development: includes the basics for a professional role, everything from using Microsoft Office to setting up a Teams meeting and giving a presentation.
Giveback: involves participating in Make Every Block Better community service events. The goal is to teach the importance of community, make an impact, and provide bonding time for teams.
Networking: entails meeting various executives with offices at H&R Block’s headquarters, having lunch with directors and vice presidents, spending time with a mentor and getting to know people beyond their assigned department.
Connected Culture: is meant to be fun and teach the importance of working hard and playing hard. H&R Block might take the interns to a Kansas City Royals game or facilitate other competitions meant to be fun or instill teamwork.
Required Qualifications:
Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Seeking to obtain a degree in Finance, Economics, Data Analytics or some similar discipline with a GPA of 3.0 or above
- Strong analytical, research and written communication skills.
- Ability to organize complex information and communicate clearly with diverse audiences.
- Curiosity about fintech, product management, and strategy development.
- Comfort working in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.
- Ability to work as part of a diverse team and independently
- Highly motivated, organized, reliable, and detail-oriented
Work Experience:
- No previous work experience necessary.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Capacity to navigate and quickly learn financial, analytics, and business intelligence systems, such as Workday, Adaptive, Power BI, Adobe Analytics, Microsoft Excel, Looker, or similar tools
- Strong analytical and quantitative skills, with an interest in using data to solve business problems and inform decisions
- Familiarity with financial modeling, business analysis, forecasting, or performance metrics through coursework, projects, or other experiences
- Exposure to SQL, Python, Databricks, or other data analysis tools is a plus
- Ability to interpret data and translate findings into clear business insights and recommendations
- Interest in financial services, fintech, digital banking, product strategy, or consumer financial products
- Ability to work through ambiguous or open-ended business problems, develop a point of view, and communicate recommendations
