Make a difference to residents' financial wellbeing  

 

We have an exciting opportunity for several Financial Wellbeing & Support Officers to join our Integrated Financial Services team within Resources - Customer, Revenues and Benefits. Funded through the Crisis and Resilience Fund, these fixed-term roles are available for a period of three years and will be undertaking work directly link to this fund.  

 

This is a rewarding frontline position where you will work directly with residents across North Yorkshire, helping them to improve their financial wellbeing and resilience, maximise their income, and access the welfare benefits and support to which they are entitled.  

 

About the role  

Working as part of a Countywide-based team, you will play a key role in delivering the Council's prevention agenda, helping residents access the right support at the right time and reducing reliance on crisis services.  

 

You will: 

  • Support residents to maximise their income through welfare benefit checks, grants and other financial support
  • Carry out crisis assessments and support applications to the Crisis and Resilience Fund
  • Provide support and assistance with welfare benefit claims, including complex cases
  • Deliver assisted digital support, helping customers access and complete claims online
  • Work in a person-centred way, offering empathetic and inclusive support, particularly to vulnerable residents
  • Collaborate with internal teams, external partners (such as Citizens Advice and North Yorkshire Local Assistance Fund) and our community partners to provide coordinated support
  • Contribute to improving long-term financial resilience and promoting independence   

This role includes a mix of office-based, remote, and community work, including visits to customers' homes where required.  

 

Working arrangements  

We offer hybrid working, with your office base agreed with the successful candidate. There is an expectation of at least two days per week in the office, alongside travel across the county to meet service needs.

 

About you

We are looking for someone who is:  

  • Customer-focused, empathetic and resilient, with strong communication skills
  • Knowledgeable about the welfare benefits system and financial support landscape
  • Experienced in a customer-facing or finance-related role
  • Confident using digital systems and able to support others to do the same
  • Able to manage a varied caseload and prioritise effectively
  • Comfortable working with vulnerable individuals and handling sensitive situations
  • You will be motivated, adaptable and committed to delivering high-quality outcomes for residents.
