Finish Carpenter

Department: Construction Operations

FLSA Status: Non-exempt full time

Position Summary

The Lead Finish Carpenter is responsible for leading a team of skilled carpenters while personally performing the highest quality finish carpentry on residential and commercial construction projects. This role combines expert craftsmanship with day-to-day field leadership to ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, on-schedule, and to exceptional quality standards.

The ideal candidate is an experienced Finish Carpenter who takes pride in precision, leads by example, communicates effectively with project teams, and is committed to delivering outstanding workmanship on every project.

Key Responsibilities

Team Leadership and Project Execution

  •   Lead, coach, and supervise a crew of 2-6 Finish Carpenters and apprentices
  • Assign daily work activities, monitor productivity, and ensure project milestones are achieved
  • Foster a positive, professional, and safety-focus work environment
  • Serve as the primary liaison between field crews= and Project Managers regarding project process, scheduling, and field issues
  • Provide hands-on training and mentoring to develop the skills of less experienced team members
  • Conduct. routine quality inspections and promptly address workmanship concerns

Finish Carpentry

  • Perform high-quality installation of finish carpentry elements including interior trim, crown molding, baseboards, door and window casings, wainscoting, built-in cabinetry and shelving, custom millworker, mantels, and architectural features
  • Install pre-hung pocket and specialty doors
  • Complete detailed stair installations including handrails, balusters, newel posts, and treads
  • Execute finish details in accordance with architectural drawings, project specifications, and company quality standards

Planning and Coordination

  • Read and interpret blueprints, architectural drawings, finish schedules, and project specifications
  • Estimate material requirements and communicate purchasing needs to project management
  • Coordinate work sequencing with other trades to maintain project schedules and minimize conflicts
  • Identify and proactively resolve field issues before they impact project timelines or quality of workmanship

Safety and Job-site Management

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and professional job-site
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations and company safety policies
  • Properly maintain tools, equipment, and work areas
  • Promote safe work practices and lead by example in maintaining a safety-first culture

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of 7 years of finish carpentry experience
  • At least 2 years of experience leading or supervising carpentry crews
  • Advanced knowledge of finish carpentry methods, materials, and installation techniques
  • Expert proficiency with hand tools, power tools, and finish carpentry equipment
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
  • OSHA 10 certification or ability to obtain certification within 90 days of hire

Preferred Qualifications

  • Residential contractor's license
  • Experience working on high-end residential and commercial construction projects
  • Journeyman Carpenter certification or equivalent trade credential
  • Familiarity with sustainable construction practices and environmentally responsible building materials

Physical Requirements and Work Environment

This position is performed primarily on active construction sites and requires regular physical activity. Essential functions include standing, walking, climbing ladders, kneeling, bending, reaching, lifting and carrying materials that weigh up to 75 pints, and working in varying weather conditions and confined spaces.

The successful candidate must be able to safely perform all essential job functions while adhering to company safety standards and OSHA regulations.
