Position Overview
We are seeking a hands-on Finishing Operator I to support high-volume manufacturing operations in Worcester, MA.
This position is responsible for setting up and operating production and finishing equipment and using hand and power tools to perform operations including grinding, cutting, dressing, deburring, sandblasting, balancing, and speed testing.
The position involves repetitive production work and is well suited for someone with previous manufacturing, machine operation, grinding, finishing, or other hands-on industrial experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Set up and operate production and finishing machinery according to established work orders and instructions.
- Perform finishing operations including grinding, cutting to dimension, dressing, shaping, deburring, sandblasting, balancing, and speed testing.
- Select appropriate machine tooling based on work-order requirements.
- Make basic equipment and machine adjustments using hand and power tools.
- Position workpieces and adjust machine controls for established operating specifications.
- Monitor machine operations and identify production or equipment problems.
- Make routine adjustments to correct operating issues.
- Trim, scrape, shape, and deburr components using hand tools.
- Load and unload materials and workpieces manually or with hoists.
- Safely move materials and finished products throughout the production area.
- Follow work orders and machine instructions to determine product specifications and operating sequences.
- Record production and processing information using required forms and computer systems.
- Inspect finished products and verify dimensions and quality against established specifications.
- Maintain established productivity, quality, and safety standards.
The manufacturing operation includes abrasive wheels, abrasive segments, ceramic finishes, and kiln-related products.
Qualifications
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent experience required.
- Previous manufacturing, production, machine operation, grinding, finishing, deburring, or industrial experience preferred.
- Mechanical aptitude and ability to work with production machinery.
- Ability to use basic hand and power tools.
- Ability to read and follow work orders and machine instructions.
- Ability to perform basic product inspections and dimensional checks.
- Basic computer skills for recording production information.
- Strong attention to detail, quality, and safety.
- Ability to perform repetitive work at a steady production pace.
- Ability to work independently after completing training.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Ability to perform repetitive hand and arm movements.
- Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, climb, and reach as necessary.
- Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 lbs.
- Heavier materials may be moved using mechanical lifting equipment.
Work Environment
This position works in an industrial manufacturing environment around production machinery and moving mechanical equipment. Candidates should be comfortable with varying temperatures, moderate industrial noise, dust, and occasional airborne particles.
Required PPE may include safety shoes, safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, and protective clothing.
