Finishing Technician

ROLE SUMMARY: Setting up, operating and maintaining one or more of our numerous finishing and bindery machines, including our Norm perfect binder as well as various finishing and bindery machines such as, but not limited to, large straight knife cutters, folders, stitcher, and mechanical binders while maintaining optimum quality and production.

About the Team: Providing high-quality finished textbooks and related education products. The team seeks to support the mission of BJU Press by maintaining high standards of efficiency and effectiveness while developing innovations that will improve our quality and operational capacity.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Program (set up) and run jobs on various finishing and binding machines according to job specifications.
• Follow shop schedule and supervisors direction in prioritization of tasks.
• Perform all regular and preventative maintenance as well as trouble shooting and repairs on equipment as needed.
• Properly load, identify, and stage work in process prior to, during and after completion
• Record all activities in shop data collection system.
• Provide guidance and training to less experienced staff as needed.
• Maintain a safe and orderly working environment
• Perform other duties as assigned.

SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES NEEDED TO SUCCEED IN THIS ROLE:

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Strong ability to perform small team tasks and functions as needed and use industry knowledge and experience to influence and teach less experienced coworkers or student workers.
• Strong math, analytical, mechanical, and troubleshooting skill sets.
• Strong time management skills, dependability, solid work ethic, positive attitude, and a focus on consistent quality.
• Ability to maintain a flexible schedule, working regular after hours shifts or overtime when required.
• Ability to work cooperatively with others
• Must be able to read, comprehend, and follow written as well as verbal instructions

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Ability to quickly learn the operation of multiple finishing or bindery machines with the ability to maintain a production-focused pace while producing quality work.
• Ability to quickly gain familiarity with various raw materials and substrates, and their performance characteristics.
• No color blindness, manual dexterity, ability to work with precise accuracy, and good visual acuity
• Valid Drivers License
• Knowledge of PACE program
