    Summary

    Responsible for designing fire alarm systems in compliance with applicable codes, standards, and project specifications; collaborates closely with project managers, estimators, engineers, and field teams to produce accurate, code-compliant fire alarm drawings and documentation for commercial, industrial, and residential projects.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

    • Design fire alarm systems in accordance with NFPA 72, NFPA 70 (NEC), IBC, IFC, and local AHJ requirements.
    • Prepare detailed fire alarm drawings, layouts, riser diagrams, and device calculations.
    • Select appropriate fire alarm equipment and devices based on project scope and code requirements.
    • Review architectural, electrical, and mechanical drawings to ensure proper system coordination.
    • Coordinate designs with project managers, engineers, and field personnel.
    • Prepare submittal packages, including product data, battery calculations, and sequence of operations.
    • Respond to plan review comments and revise drawings as required.
    • Support permitting and AHJ approval processes.
    • Assist with design-build and value engineering solutions when applicable.
    • Maintain organized project documentation and design files.

    Education and/or Experience

    Associate or Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Drafting, or related field, or equivalent industry experience; 2-5 years of fire alarm design experience; strong working knowledge of NFPA codes and local fire alarm requirements; proficiency in AutoCAD and/or Revit (preferred); familiarity with major fire alarm manufacturers and systems; ability to read and interpret construction documents and specifications; NICET preferred.

    Computer Skills

    Microsoft Office applications, including Word and Excel.

    Physical Demands

    Regularly required to sit; walk; use hands to finger, handle, feel and reach with hands and arms, and/or climb a ladder.
