Job Summary

Join our team in Hickory, NC, a city celebrated for its vibrant community and rich history nestled in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. This full-time role involves inspecting, testing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing fire alarm systems in commercial and industrial environments. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical troubleshooting skills, knowledge of NFPA 72 and applicable fire/life safety codes, and the ability to deliver professional service to customers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct routine inspections and testing of fire alarm components, including control panels, detectors, horns, strobes, annunciators, and related devices.
  • Prepare detailed reports documenting inspection findings, test results, deficiencies, and recommended corrective actions.
  • Troubleshoot system malfunctions and perform repairs involving wiring, circuitry, devices, software, and other system components.
  • Respond to service calls and emergency requests, diagnose problems, and implement solutions to restore system functionality.
  • Perform preventative maintenance, including cleaning, calibration, battery replacement, and other required service activities.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of inspections, service work, repairs, parts used, and customer notes.
  • Communicate inspection findings and system deficiencies to customers in a professional manner.
  • Provide recommendations for necessary repairs, upgrades, or improvements.
  • Coordinate with service and administrative teams regarding scheduling, materials, work orders, and job requirements.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment while following all applicable safety procedures and regulations.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Technical or vocational training in fire alarm systems or a related field preferred.
  • NICET certification strongly preferred.
  • State-specific fire alarm licensing preferred, or ability to obtain required licensing.
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
  • Previous experience installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing fire alarm systems in commercial and industrial environments.
  • Strong understanding of NFPA 72 (National Fire Alarm and Signaling Code) and applicable fire and building codes.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Willingness to travel to customer locations as needed.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, and work on your feet for extended periods.
  • Ability to work at heights and in confined spaces when required.
  • Comfortable working in commercial, industrial, and outdoor environments that may include noise, dust, heat, low-light conditions, and other challenging conditions.
  • Ability to use hand and power tools for cutting, grinding, drilling, fastening, and other service-related tasks.
  • Ability to use appropriate fall protection and other safety equipment when required.
