Fire Alarm Technician

Position Overview

We are looking for an experienced Fire Alarm Technician to install, service, troubleshoot, program, test, and maintain commercial fire alarm systems in the Des Moines area.

The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with fire alarm panels, devices, wiring, programming, inspections, testing, and troubleshooting. Strong knowledge of fire alarm codes and the ability to read blueprints and wiring diagrams are required.

Valid Iowa Fire Alarm License is required.

Responsibilities

• Install, program, test, and service commercial fire alarm systems.
• Troubleshoot fire alarm panels, devices, wiring, and communication issues.
• Perform system inspections, testing, startup, and commissioning.
• Install and terminate fire alarm devices, including smoke detectors, heat detectors, pull stations, modules, notification appliances, and other field devices.
• Read and interpret fire alarm drawings, blueprints, riser diagrams, and wiring diagrams.
• Perform point-to-point testing and identify system deficiencies.
• Diagnose and repair fire alarm system faults and troubles.
• Perform preventive maintenance and service calls.
• Complete inspection reports, service documentation, and deficiency reports.
• Work with customers, contractors, and project teams to resolve fire alarm issues.
• Follow applicable NFPA, local, state, and manufacturer requirements.
• Maintain a safe and professional work environment.

Qualifications

• Valid Iowa Fire Alarm License – Required
• 3+ years of hands-on fire alarm experience preferred.
• Experience with fire alarm installation, service, testing, and troubleshooting.
• Knowledge of commercial fire alarm systems and components.
• Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and wiring diagrams.
• Strong electrical and low-voltage troubleshooting skills.
• NICET certification is preferred.
• Valid driver's license.
• Strong communication and customer service skills.
• Ability to work independently in the field.
