MISSION:

JOB SUMMARY:

Under general supervision, inspects, tests, maintains, troubleshoots, repairs, and installs fire alarm detection, fire life safety, and mass notification systems in accordance with manufacturer specifications, National Fire Protection Association standards, applicable codes, and contract requirements. This position supports the safe and reliable operation of fire alarm and related electrical systems within commercial, industrial, institutional, or government facility environments.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Inspects, tests, maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs fire alarm detection, fire life safety, and mass notification systems.
  • Analyzes blueprints, schematics, wiring diagrams, drawings, and technical specifications to support installation, repair, and upgrade of fire alarm systems.
  • Visually inspects fire alarm equipment and replaces defective components as needed.
  • Tests initiating devices, notification appliances, signal circuits, system transmitters, panels, detectors, pull stations, audible/visual alarms, and related system components.
  • Diagnoses electrical and system malfunctions to identify necessary repairs or corrective actions.
  • Installs fire alarm system components, including panels, detectors, pull stations, audible/visual devices, wiring, and related equipment as assigned.
  • Inspects fire alarm and mass notification systems to evaluate condition, identify deficiencies, and recommend preventive maintenance or repair needs.
  • Coordinates work activities with supervisors, other trades, contractors, and customers to complete work orders and projects efficiently.
  • Monitors’ work performed by outside contractors, as assigned, to ensure work is completed in accordance with applicable codes, regulations, specifications, and contract requirements.
  • Maintains assigned tools, test equipment, and work areas in safe and serviceable condition.
  • Prepares and maintains written documentation, including work orders, inspection results, maintenance records, repair notes, and other required reports.
  • Responds to emergency service calls during and after normal work hours to resolve immediate safety concerns.
  • Participates in meetings, training, workshops, and required certification activities as assigned.
  • Performs other duties and special projects as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibility:

  • This position has no formal supervisory responsibility.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience performing fire alarm system installation, inspection, testing, maintenance, repair, and certification in a commercial, industrial, government, or large facilities environment.
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug test.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Outlook, Excel, and Share Point.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain all required installation access credentials and security clearances for Fort Rucker, or other assigned government installations.
  • Must have a valid Driver’s License and clean driving record that meets BAC MVR requirements.
  • Must possess an OSHA 10-Hour General Industry training card or have the ability to obtain one within 90 days of employment from an OSHA authorized provider.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of commercial fire alarm, fire life safety, and mass notification systems.
  • Knowledge of NFPA standards, National Electrical Code requirements, and applicable local, state, and federal regulations related to fire alarm installation, inspection, testing, repair, and maintenance.
  • Ability to read, understand, and interpret blueprints, schematics, wiring diagrams, technical manuals, and manufacturer specifications.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and diagnose fire alarm system problems using appropriate tools, meters, and testing equipment.
  • Ability to manage and accurately track material resources, time, work orders, and changing work priorities.
  • Ability to estimate time, materials, and resources needed to complete assigned work.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing and provide professional customer service.
  • Ability to respond appropriately to customer inquiries and escalate more complex matters when needed.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and collaboratively with supervisors, coworkers, contractors, and customers.
  • Ability to work safely and comply with OSHA requirements, company safety policies, and applicable fire protection standards.
  • Ability to travel to various facilities.

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES and REGISTRATIONS:

  • OSHA 10-Hour General Industry.
  • NICET Fire Alarm Systems certification preferred or as required by contract.

TRAVEL:

No overnight or out-of-area travel is expected for this position. Local movement within local sites will be required to support inspections, meetings, incident response and contract operations.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Employees must be able to perform the essential physical requirements of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation, for extended periods of time. Duties may include:

  • Walking, standing, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, squatting, reaching, pushing, pulling, and carrying materials and equipment.
  • Maneuvering to, from, and around fire alarm equipment, panels, devices, and related building systems.
  • Climbing ladders and working at varying heights to access equipment.
  • Working in mechanical rooms, crawl spaces, rooftops, and other restricted or elevated areas.
  • Monitoring computer systems, control panels, and diagnostic equipment.
  • Transporting tools, equipment, and materials to various locations within the customer site.
  • Lifting, carrying, pushing, or moving tools, materials, and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Performing repetitive physical tasks associated with fire alarm inspection, testing, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair.
  • These physical requirements may be performed with or without reasonable accommodation.

SAFETY AND ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

Work is performed primarily in field environments, including customer sites, mechanical rooms, rooftops, crawl spaces, exterior facility areas, and other locations where fire alarm and related systems are installed. Work may require driving to and from assigned work locations.

Employees may be exposed to varying environmental conditions, including heat, cold, humidity, rain, wind, dust, dirt, fumes, noise, electrical hazards, toxic or hazardous substances, and other conditions associated with facility maintenance operations.

Employees are required to wear and properly use all designated personal protective equipment, also known as PPE, and comply with all applicable safety policies, OSHA regulations, NFPA standards, and company procedures.

SENSORY REQUIREMENTS:

Requires manual dexterity, visual acuity, color differentiation, concentration, and the ability to safely operate fire alarm testing equipment, meters, hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic instruments.
