    Job Description

Step into the field where your install work saves lives

At RCM Fire, a Guardian Fire Services Company, we’ve protected communities across California since 2001. Our in-house design and installation teams deliver consistency from first drawing to final inspection, and our culture pairs collaboration with real growth opportunities.

    Day in the life

You’ll roll out to residential, commercial, and industrial sites to build or modernize fire alarm systems end to end. Mornings may start reviewing Approved Fire Alarm Drawings and Jurisdictional Addenda; by midday you’re mounting control panels, running wiring, placing sensors and notification appliances, and performing job-specific programming as delegated. Throughout the day, you coordinate with electricians, fellow technicians, building managers, subcontractors, and inspectors to keep work code-compliant. Before you leave the site, you contact the Department Superintendent with a status update—SOW Completed or Not Completed—and align on next steps for re-mobilization.

    What you’ll tackle

    • Install complete fire alarm systems for new construction, retrofit, or TI projects.
    • Upgrade and modernize legacy systems to improve detection and reliability.
    • Execute basic system programming as assigned on a job-by-job basis.
    • Collaborate with internal teams and external partners (AHJ, GCs, subs) to ensure seamless execution and compliance.
    • Communicate daily with the Department Superintendent at the end of each service call/workday regarding project status and re-mobilization plans.

    What you bring

    • Hands-on knowledge of fire alarm hardware, low-voltage circuitry, and electrical fundamentals (training available as needed).
    • Strong troubleshooting instincts and diagnostic methodology (training available as needed).
    • Ability to read/interpret blueprints, electrical schematics, and manuals (training available as needed).
    • Working familiarity with NFPA 72, NEC, and IBC.
    • State Fire Alarm technician certification (Blue Card) required for anyone installing or altering a Fire Alarm System in California. If you don’t have it, you’ll be expected to test within 6 months of hire.
    • NICET certifications highly preferred and often required for advanced roles (ongoing system and equipment training provided).
    • 3–5+ years of installation, maintenance, or repair experience in fire alarm systems. An initial evaluation at hire will determine experience level, placement, and training needs.
    • Physical capability to use ladders, manlifts, and harnesses; work in confined spaces (with training/certification); and lift up to 50 lbs.
    • Clear, professional communication with clients, teammates, AHJs, subcontractors, and GCs.
    • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.

    Compensation, benefits, and support

    • Competitive pay based on experience.
    • Health, dental, and vision insurance.
    • 401(k) with employer match.
    • Generous PTO and paid holidays.
    • Certification reimbursement, training programs, and advancement pathways.
    • Company-provided vehicle, tools, and resources to help you succeed.
