Description: Fire Alarm Technician
TradeSTAR is hiring experienced Fire Alarm Technicians for commercial installation, service, and commissioning projects throughout the Austin area. These positions support large-scale commercial construction, system upgrades, tenant finish-outs, healthcare facilities, schools, industrial sites, and mission-critical environments.
We are seeking technicians with strong experience in commercial fire alarm systems, low-voltage infrastructure, device troubleshooting, and code-compliant installations.
Job Responsibilities
Install, terminate, service, and troubleshoot commercial fire alarm systems
Install and service addressable and conventional fire alarm control panels
Install and terminate smoke detectors, heat detectors, pull stations, monitor modules, control modules, horn/strobes, beam detectors, duct detectors, and relay modules
Pull and route FPL, FPLP, and low-voltage fire alarm cabling through conduit, cable tray, J-hooks, and structured pathways
Troubleshoot SLC loops, NAC circuits, Class A/Class B wiring, communication faults, and device-level failures
Perform panel programming, device addressing, and system diagnostics using manufacturer software and programming tools
Conduct system testing, inspections, commissioning, and final acceptance testing
Read and interpret riser diagrams, wiring schematics, sequence of operations, device layouts, and one-line diagrams
Ensure all installations comply with NFPA 72, NEC requirements, local AHJ regulations, and manufacturer specifications
Interface with inspectors, project managers, building engineers, and other trades on active commercial job sites
Document inspections, service work, deficiencies, and as-built changes accurately
Technical Requirements
2+ years of commercial fire alarm installation or service experience
Experience with addressable fire alarm systems in commercial environments
Knowledge of low-voltage wiring methods, fire alarm pathways, and life safety infrastructure
Ability to troubleshoot communication faults, ground faults, and device failures independently
Experience working from blueprints, riser diagrams, and fire alarm submittals
Familiarity with integrated systems including elevator recall, door release, smoke control, and suppression interfaces
Reliable transportation and industry-standard hand tools required
