Role - FIRE INSPECTION TECHNICIAN

Location - Euclid, Ohio

Work Type - Onsite | Full-time

POSITION SUMMARY

  • The Fire Inspection Technician is responsible for inspecting, testing, and maintaining fire protection and life-safety systems-excluding sprinkler and portable extinguisher systems-to ensure compliance with fire codes and safety regulations.

  • This role helps protect people and property by identifying hazards, documenting inspection results, and supporting corrective actions to maintain safe facility conditions.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

FIRE SYSTEM INSPECTION & TESTING

  • Perform routine inspections and testing of the following systems:

    • Fire alarm systems and control panels

    • Indicating appliances (strobes, horns, speakers, etc.)

    • Notification appliances (pull stations, smokes, duct detectors, etc.)

  • Conduct functionality and performance testing to ensure compliance with applicable NFPA standards and local regulations.

  • Verify that all inspected devices are properly installed, functional, and free of defects.

CODE COMPLIANCE

  • Ensure all inspection activities adhere to NFPA standards (e.g., NFPA 72 for fire alarms, NFPA 101 for life safety), building codes, and authority having jurisdiction (AHJ) requirements.

  • Document any violations or deficiencies and escalate findings to the appropriate personnel for corrective action.

DOCUMENTATION & REPORTING

  • Prepare clear, accurate inspection reports using company software or approved forms.

  • Maintain detailed records of testing procedures, results, and necessary repairs.

  • Provide written recommendations for system repairs, modifications, or upgrades.

HAZARD IDENTIFICATION

  • Identify and report fire hazards such as blocked egress paths, impaired alarm system components, or unsafe storage practices.

  • Communicate issues promptly to building owners, facility managers, or supervisors.

COLLABORATION & CUSTOMER INTERACTION

  • Coordinate inspection schedules with building occupants, facility staff, and contractors.

  • Explain inspection results, code requirements, and corrective actions in a clear, professional manner.

  • Demonstrate excellent customer service during all interactions in public or private facilities.

SAFETY & PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

  • Follow all workplace and field safety procedures, including lockout/tagout and ladder safety.

  • Stay current with evolving fire codes, inspection standards, and industry technology.

  • Participate in ongoing training and certification programs (e.g., NICET Fire Alarm Systems).

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or GED (technical or vocational training preferred).

  • Knowledge of fire alarm systems, life-safety devices, and relevant NFPA standards.

  • Fire Alarm License a MUST

  • Ability to read and interpret technical documents, wiring diagrams, and building plans.

  • Strong attention to detail with excellent documentation skills.

  • Ability to work in various environmental conditions and perform physical tasks such as climbing ladders and accessing equipment.
