The Position
The City of Bristol is pleased to announce our search for a Fire Apparatus Mechanic to join our team. The position works under the supervision of the Fire Chief or other designated supervisor. Key responsibilities of this position are to maintain, repair, and service all assigned Fire Department apparatus and related equipment.

Minimum Qualifications:
Educational Requirements:
High school diploma or GED. Vocational training in heavy equipment maintenance and repair, or two (2) years of experience in the repair and maintenance of fire apparatus desired.
Requires ASE Master Truck Certification.
Must have a valid Connecticut Driver's License with 2Q Endorsement.
Must have or ability to obtain NFPA 1071 Standard for Emergency Vehicle Technician (EVT) Professional Qualifications Certification within 6 months of hire date.
Must have or ability to obtain Scott SCBA Technician Level 1 and 2 within one (1) year of hire date.
Qualifications Requirements:
Requires knowledge of current mechanical practices, the ability to diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical problems, an understanding of proper methods to use for repair, and an understanding of proper tools and materials used in the maintenance/repair of fire equipment, apparatus, and vehicles. Experience required in repair of fire apparatus and pumps, emergency lighting systems, fire equipment, radio systems, oxy acetylene cutting, welding, and brazing, and electromagnetic arc welding and brazing. Considerable skill in the use and care of the tools, equipment, and materials used in maintenance and repair work for the Fire Department. Ability to understand and diagnose from electrical schematics, hydraulic schematics, and computer-aided repair manuals. Must have the ability to work after hours if required.

Starting annual salary of $96,921; includes excellent benefit package.
