The City of Winfield, Kansas (pop. 11,745) is seeking an experienced, steady, and approachable public safety leader to serve as its next Fire-EMS Chief. Winfield Fire-EMS provides fire prevention and suppression, emergency medical services, rescue operations, training, inspections, and regional mutual-aid response, with approximately 85% of departmental calls being EMS-related. The department has 28 employees and a $3.9 million budget, covering a 235-square-mile fire district and a 750-square-mile ALS EMS coverage area, and operates Cowley Countys only heavy rescue unit.
Reporting to the City Manager, the Fire-EMS Chief will plan, coordinate, supervise, and evaluate fire and EMS operations; lead personnel development and training; administer the departments annual budget; and provide command leadership at emergency scenes.
