Pay Grade: Fire Fleet Technician: 108 Senior Fire Fleet Technician: 112

Hourly Salary Range: Fire Fleet Technician: $25.52 - $37.64 Senior Fire Fleet Technician: $32.25 - $47.54

The successful candidate's placement in the salary range will depend upon previous experience in a similar role. The placement shall not exceed the midpoint of the salary range, which is $31.58 per hour for the Fire Fleet Technician and $39.90 per hour for the Senior Fire Fleet Technician.

This position is part of a flexible classification. Qualified candidates may be hired at either level based on their experience, education, and training as determined by the hiring authority.

DESCRIPTION

This position maintains and repairs fire department apparatus and equipment, including fire response vehicles, ambulances, other support vehicles, and equipment. Duties include, but are not limited to the following:

• Repairs and maintains assigned fire department apparatus and equipment. • Performs routine preventative maintenance inspections and follow-up repairs. • Maintains maintenance and repair records using the fleet maintenance software program. • Fabricates, welds, cuts, and grinds parts for fire department apparatus and equipment. • Transports fire department apparatus and equipment to vendor locations. • Cleans and maintains all shop equipment and tools.

May perform responsibilities of a similar nature and level as assigned.

Senior Fire Fleet Technician:

Performs job duties listed above and:

• Performs all preventative maintenance inspections and follow-up repairs. • Conducts road-side services for disabled fire apparatus.

REQUIREMENTS

Experience:

Fire Fleet Technician: One (1) year of experience in the repair and maintenance of heavy-duty vehicles or equipment, or related experience. Senior Fire Fleet Technician: Two (2) years of experience in the repair and maintenance of heavy-duty vehicles or equipment, or related experience.

Candidates must have the minimum amount of work experience. Years of experience are based upon a full-time work schedule (2,080 hours per year). The sum of an applicant's full-time and/or part-time qualifying work experience must meet or exceed the stated minimum qualification. Education will not substitute for the required work experience; however, related unpaid and/or volunteer work experience may be used as qualifying work experience.

Education:

Both levels: High school diploma or GED.

Professional Licensure and/or Certifications:

Both levels: Valid Driver's license Fire Fleet Technician: Class B Commercial Drivers License (CDL), obtain within six (6) months of hire Emergency Vehicle Technician (EVT) Level I Fire Apparatus Technician certification, obtain within two (2) years of hire EVT Level I Fire Ambulance Technician certification, obtain within two (2) years of hire Senior Fire Fleet Technician: Class A or Class B Commercial Drivers License (CDL) Emergency Vehicle Technician (EVT) Level I Fire Apparatus Technician certification EVT Level I Fire Ambulance Technician certification EVT Level II Fire Apparatus Technician certification, obtain within two (2) years of hire EVT Level II Fire Ambulance Technician certification, obtain within two (2) years of hire

Additional Requirements (Both Levels)

Complete set of mechanic hand tools
