Job DetailsWe are seeking an experienced Fire Protection Engineer to join our Philadelphia team. This position is ideal for a licensed engineer with a strong background in building fire protection and life safety systems who wants to work on complex, multidisciplinary building projects.
The Fire Protection Engineer will provide design and technical leadership across fire suppression, fire alarm/detection, life safety, and building/fire code analysis. You will collaborate closely with architects and other engineering disciplines while interacting directly with clients, contractors, code officials, and authorities.
Responsibilities
Design and develop fire suppression/sprinkler and fire alarm systems for complex building projects
Prepare and review fire protection and life safety construction documents
Develop code studies and life safety plans
Perform building and fire code analysis using applicable IBC, IFC, NFPA 101, NFPA 13, NFPA 72, and related standards
Evaluate site water supplies and requirements for fire suppression systems
Assist project teams with egress, construction types, fire barriers, and other life safety considerations
Coordinate fire protection systems with architectural, structural, mechanical, plumbing, and electrical disciplines
Review sprinkler and fire alarm shop drawings
Work directly with AHJs and code officials to review and resolve fire protection and life safety issues
Participate in client and project stakeholder meetings
Assist with CFD fire modeling, egress modeling, and smoke control analysis as applicable
Provide technical guidance and support throughout design and construction
Perform site visits and support construction administration activities
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Fire Protection Engineering, Architectural Engineering, or related engineering discipline
Professional Engineer (PE) license required
Ideally 5+years of related fire protection engineering experience
Experience with the analysis and design of building fire protection and life safety systems
Strong knowledge of fire suppression/sprinkler systems
Experience with fire alarm and detection systems
Experience with life safety and building/fire code analysis
Working knowledge of IBC, IFC, NFPA 101, NFPA 13, NFPA 72, and related codes and standards
Experience with AutoCAD and/or Revit
Ability to coordinate fire protection design with other architectural and engineering disciplines
Strong technical, analytical, communication, and project management skills
Candidates with a mechanical or plumbing engineering/design background may also be considered provided they have substantial hands-on fire protection experience, particularly with suppression/sprinkler systems, fire alarm/detection, and applicable building/fire codes.
Experience with CFD/fire modeling, FDS, PyroSim, Pathfinder, smoke control design, egress modeling, or structural fire analysis is a plus.
