To ensure the safety of Rayonier personnel and property through the detection, investigation, and prevention of fires. This includes: inspection and maintenance of all fire protection systems; collaboration with insurance providers, Fire Protection Manager, mill management, and contractors; develop and present employee fire related training; maintain adequate records and prepare reports for management with recommendations for appropriate actions; provide assistance to the mill and insurance companies in solving problems caused by fires; and; develop and implement procedures and activities that will prevent loss of life, property, and/or injury because of fire.

The hourly rate of pay for this position is $40.61.

Key Responsibilities:

Planning & Compliance

  • Serve as a staff expert on all fire safety compliance activities and assist each department in finding the necessary items/information to meet all Federal, State and Local regulations and requirements.
  • Participate in mill capital and maintenance projects for fire suppression with fire protection manager, management, contractor, and insurance careers.
  • Work with emergency services in the local area (fire departments, EMS, and law enforcement) to establish more efficient emergency response.
  • Coordinate with local emergency organizations and develop SOPs for emergencies on the mill site.
  • Develop action plans for the loss prevention survey report with the Division Fire Protection Manager, mill manager, and contractors to ensure recommendations are reviewed and action plans are written.
  • Professional goals and development plan.
  • Inspect, test, and maintain fire suppression systems, including sprinklers, standpipes, fire extinguishers, water supplies, and fire pumps.
  • Maintain compliance with NFPA standards (National Fire Protection Association).
  • Inspect, test, and maintain fire alarm systems.
  • Perform monthly, quarterly, and annual inspections of all fire protection equipment.
  • Keep accurate records of all inspections, tests, and maintenance activities.
  • Investigate the root cause of all fires that occur on the premises and enter information into data system.
  • Collaborate with safety and other affected personnel on an action plan to prevent recurrence.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of evacuation plans.
  • Educate employees on fire safety procedures.
  • Respond to emergency calls as needed.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • Adhere to all safety regulations.
  • Follow all company policies and procedures.
  • Report any concerns or issues to management immediately.
  • Responsible for fire hose purchase, inspection, testing, documentation, and repairs.
  • Manage the maintenance, purchasing and inventory of all fire extinguishers at the mill.

Training & Procedures:

  • Develop fire safety presentations for classroom training including Incipient Fire, Fire Watch, etc.
  • Maintain and review the following programs - Incipient stage fire control plan, Welding procedures, Hot work permit program.

Requirements:

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Intermediate knowledge of firefighting techniques, and fire safety codes and standards (e.g., NFPA).
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Intermediate proficiency of Microsoft Office, and Microsoft Teams.
  • Knowledge of Industrial safety practices and principles including OSHA regulations, and environmental compliance.
  • Must be familiar with sprinkler system maintenance and be willing to perform maintenance as needed.
  • Proficient written, communication and presentation skills.
  • Able to use hand and power tools safely and effectively.
  • Able to operate mobile industrial equipment.
  • Thorough knowledge of fire safety codes and standards (e.g., NFPA).
  • Working knowledge of reading and interpreting blueprints and technical drawings.
