    JOB SUMMARY:

    The Fire Safety Officer II Paramedic (Quick Response Vehicle Medic) protects life and property by providing Fire & Emergency Medical Services response including, but not limited to emergency medical care, fire suppression, hazardous materials, technical rescue, fire and injury prevention and educational programs. Performs other duties as assigned.

    Performs duties concerned with fire-fighting and rescue duties and activities, reducing fire hazards, and maintaining and operating fire equipment.

     

     

    JOB DUTIES:

    50% Responsible for responding to scenes of fires, disasters or other emergency incidents; provides emergency medical services; responds to manmade and natural disasters; protecting life and property through controlling, extinguishing and preventing fires. Delivers safe medical care and treatment based on the individual needs of the patient and in accordance with medical protocols and department policies and procedures. In emergency situations, performs hazardous tasks requiring strenuous physical exertion for extended periods of time. This position will be required to work special event standby for fire and EMS operations. 15 % Supervisory: Work is performed under the direction of a commanding officer but the individual must take initiative and exercise independent judgment in emergency situations. This position has no supervisory responsibilities, however may require giving assignments and/or directions to co-workers or members of the public during emergency operations per NIMS-ICS as a resource leader or team member; May serve as Initial Incident Commander until relieved as required. 35 % Administrative: Actively conducts occupancy pre-incident plans, performs fire prevention, public education, and public relations activities while projecting a professional public image. Accurately completes electronic forms, incident reports, and other documentation in an accurate and timely manner, as required. Maintains compliance with required OSHA Programs to include Fire Brigade Clearance, Respiratory Protection, Exposure Control Program. Maintains EMS certification and maintains medical control sponsorship/authorization.

    Minimum Requirements:

    A high school diploma or GED and 1+ year of field experience in fire-fighting equipment maintenance and/or EMS service at the EMT Basic level or higher, fire prevention or firefighting. Current National Registry Paramedic & SC Paramedic certification, NIMS-ICS 700, 800,100,& 200, SC Drivers License, CPR-BLS, and the ability to maintain continuous medical control sponsorship. Successful completion of National Traffic Incident Management (TIM) Responder Training within six months of hire.

    Preferred Requirements:

    AA, AS/AD, or AAD in fire Science, Emergency Services, or other related field. 2+ years of full time paid firefighter experience and 2+ years of full time paid Advanced EMT or Paramedic experience. SC Drivers License Class B or E. NFPA, IFSAC or Proboard Firefighter I and II, Emergency Vehicle Driver/Operator (SCFA 1210 or equivalent). Firefighter Survival/Mayday(SCFA 1139 or equivalent). Rapid Intervention Team (RIT- SCFA 1140 or equivalent). Support Company Operations (SCFA 1161 or equivalent). Technical Rescue Awareness. Technical Rescue Operations (or equivalent).

    This position is subject to work special events, work nights, holidays, and recall to meet department staffing and training requirements.

    Not responsible for supervising employees.

     

    BUDGETARY RESPONSIBILITIES

    No fiscal responsibility for the department's budget.

    COMPENSATION INFORMATION:

    Expected Salary Range

    $45,300 - $61,100

    Salary is dependent upon several factors including, but not limited to, a candidate's previous experience, knowledge, skills and performance in accordance with Clemson's compensation guidelines.

     

     

    ESSENTIAL PERSONNEL LEVEL:

    Emergency Response - In the event of an emergency closure or modified operations, this position is required to respond in order to provide the University's initial response to the emergency situation, including the execution of mission essential functions. Some positions in this category may be required to work remotely or be on call.
