Position Summary:
The Fire Sprinkler Designer we are seeking is highly detail-oriented, self-motivated and takes pride in producing accurate, complete, and code-compliant designs. This role is critical to the success of our projects, and we are looking for someone who understands the importance of thorough surveys, thoughtful design, and full project awareness from start to finish.
The ideal candidate does not rush through site surveys or design work but instead takes the time to fully understand existing conditions and project requirements to avoid downstream issues in the field. They recognize that design quality directly impacts installation efficiency, project timelines, and overall success.
This individual is highly accountable, takes ownership of their work, and is committed to maintaining a strong professional reputation within the industry. They are well-versed in NFPA codes, collaborative with internal teams, and continuously working to improve their technical knowledge and design skills.
Key Responsibilities:
· Thoroughly review contract drawings, specifications, and project documents to determine the most effective and accurate design approach.
· Ensure all designs comply with applicable codes, standards, and project requirements
· Conduct detailed site surveys and field verifications, ensuring all existing conditions are fully understood before design begins
· Coordinate sprinkler layouts with other MEP trades using overlay methods or BIM to minimize conflicts and rework
· Maintain full project awareness throughout the design process, identifying and addressing potential issues before they impact the field
· Prepare complete permit packages, including plans, hydraulic calculations, seismic calculations, and material submittals for AHJs and general contractors
· Respond promptly and professionally to AHJ comments and plan review feedback during the permitting process
· Generate accurate material and fabrication lists aligned with design documents and field conditions.
· Coordinate material orders with vendors to support project schedules.
· Prepare clear and accurate installation drawings and fabrication reports for field personnel
· Support field teams during installation, providing guidance and resolving design-related questions as needed
· Communicate any design changes that may impact schedule, labor, or cost to the estimator and project manager in a timely manner
· Collaborate with internal teams to ensure a smooth transition from design through project execution
· Build and maintain strong working relationships with customers, project teams, field personnel and vendors.
· Prepare and deliver complete and accurate closeout documentation at project completion
