Job Summary:

LifeSafety Management is seeking a motivated Fire Sprinkler & Alarm Inspector to perform the inspection, testing, and maintenance (ITM) of water-based fire protection systems, including fire sprinkler systems, standpipes, backflow devices, fire pumps, and fire alarm systems across commercial and residential properties. This is a skilled, field-based role for a technician who can work independently, manage a daily route, and serve as a trusted point of contact for customers. Working with limited supervision, the Inspector conducts routine and complex inspections, diagnoses system deficiencies, completes accurate compliance documentation, and helps mentor junior inspectors as needed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Independently perform inspections, testing, and maintenance of fire sprinkler systems, standpipes, fire pumps, backflow prevention devices, and fire alarm systems in accordance with NFPA 25, NFPA 72, and applicable local codes.
  • Inspect sprinkler system components including control valves, risers, gauges, water flow devices, supervisory devices, and associated system equipment to ensure proper operation and code compliance.
  • Accurately document inspection results, code and system deficiencies, and service activities using company-provided tools, and produce timely, complete inspection and deficiency reports.
  • Communicate findings, recommendations, and code issues to customers professionally and clearly, and identify opportunities for follow-up service, repairs, or system upgrades.
  • Read and interpret sprinkler and fire alarm drawings, hydraulic information, riser diagrams, schematics, and wiring diagrams.
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and parts inventory in the company vehicle, and ensure all test equipment is in a constant state of readiness.
  • Follow all safety procedures, including working on ladders, lifts, and occasionally in confined spaces.
  • Provide on-the-job guidance and technical support to junior inspectors and apprentices as needed.
  • Maintain current technical knowledge by staying up to date with NFPA code revisions, industry changes, and certification requirements.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Minimum 2 years of hands-on experience inspecting, testing, and maintaining fire sprinkler systems and/or other water-based fire protection systems; fire alarm experience is also desirable.
  • Strong working knowledge of NFPA 25 and familiarity with NFPA 72 and Florida-adopted fire code requirements.
  • Understanding of sprinkler system components, water supply arrangements, control valves, risers, fire pumps, and backflow prevention devices.
  • Proficient with hand tools, test equipment, and mechanical/electrical troubleshooting.
  • Ability to read and interpret sprinkler drawings, riser diagrams, technical schematics, and wiring drawings.
  • Comfortable using mobile devices, inspection software, and basic computer applications (e.g., Microsoft Office).
  • Strong communication and customer-service skills, with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to meet company driving eligibility requirements, including holding a valid driver's license and maintaining an acceptable motor vehicle record.

Preferred Qualifications

  • NICET Level I or higher in Water-Based Systems Layout, Inspection and Testing of Water-Based Systems, and/or Fire Alarm Systems.
  • FASA/BASA license.
  • 3+ years of fire sprinkler inspection, testing, and maintenance experience, including inspections of fire pumps, standpipe systems, and backflow assemblies.
  • Experience producing deficiency reports and working directly with Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs).

This role may require extended periods of sitting or standing, movement around the office or job site, and operation of standard equipment. Physical activities can include reaching, bending, kneeling, climbing, and lifting up to 75 lbs. Field positions may involve heavy lifting, working in varying climates (including outdoor conditions), construction or low-voltage environments, and exposure to dust, noise, or confined spaces. Personal protective equipment (PPE) may be required. Some roles may require travel.
