Tesla is seeking a Fire Systems Designer for the Infrastructure Engineering team. This role is ideal for a NICET II+ designer with a strong background in commercial and manufacturing projects, and a proven track record of working on projects from kickoff through construction, quality design and Certificate of Occupancy. A successful candidate will play a key role in delivering high-quality, code-compliant fire systems across a variety of sites and projects.
- Assist in the design and coordination of fire systems for Tesla facilities
- Assist with project initiation phase by collaborating with a variety of teams to define scope, design criteria, schedule and cost
- Develop bid level documentation including drawings, specifications, and engineering calculations
- Develop RFP/RFQ documents for project scoping and pricing
- Perform system sizing, bulk pipe routing, and pressure loss calculations for fire protection systems
- Ensure all designs are compliant with applicable codes and standards, including NFPA, and local jurisdictional requirements
- Managing 3rd party consultants or subcontractors in support of construction activities including but not limited to submittal review, RFI responses, and field surveys
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience
- Certified NICET II or above in the United States
- 6+ years of experience in fire system design (fire suppression or fire alarm), with a strong focus on commercial and manufacturing projects
- Experience working with Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJ)
- Demonstrated ability to independently lead projects from kickoff through construction-level design
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, and hydraulic calculation tools (i.e. HydraCAD, AutoSprink, etc)
- Anticipate minimal travel (5-10%)
