In this critical safety role, you will monitor active hot-work zones while welders and millwrights perform machinery overhauls, maintain fire prevention readiness, and handle general industrial cleanup including sweeping, hosing down work areas, and vacuuming debris. Description for Fire Watch & Safety Attendant:
- Maintain continuous visual observation of active hot-work zones while welders, pipefitters, and millwrights perform structural repairs and cutting operations.
- Monitor for stray sparks, smoldering materials, slag, and potential fire hazards in surrounding plant equipment and structures.
- Ensure fire extinguishers, water hoses, and emergency safety equipment are staged, inspected, and ready for immediate deployment.
- Conduct post-work cooldown monitoring to ensure hot-work areas remain 100% safe after welding operations conclude.
- Perform essential industrial maintenance and housekeeping: sweeping work bays, hosing down surfaces, operating industrial vacuums, and clearing scrap debris.
- Strictly adhere to facility safety standards, hot-work permit requirements, Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) protocols, and PPE compliance.

- Pay Rate: $25.00 / hour (Straight time).
- Location: Longview, WA industrial facility.
- Position Type: Full-Time Industrial Outage / Maintenance Project (September – October 2026).
- Available Shifts & Project Dates:
- Day Shift Fire Watch: Estimated September 8, 2026 – October 31, 2026 | 6:00 AM – 4:30 PM (10-hour shifts!).
- Night Shift Fire Watch: Estimated September 14, 2026 – October 31, 2026 | 4:00 PM – 2:00 AM (10-hour shifts!).
Requirements for Fire Watch & Safety Attendant:
- High Vigilance & Focus: Must be able to remain 100% alert, attentive, and focused on safety monitoring throughout 10-hour shifts.
- Physical Capability: Ability to stand and walk for long durations, bend, stoop, climb stairs/ladders, and perform active cleanup tasks (sweeping, hosing, lifting up to 50 lbs).
- Comfortable working in an active, heavy industrial mill environment around hot-work operations.
- Strong communication skills and ability to sound alarms or notify trade crews immediately of safety hazards.
- Exceptional record of daily attendance, prompt punctuality, and a zero-tolerance attitude toward safety shortcuts.
