As a Fire Watcher, you'll play a vital role in maintaining a safe environment during hot work activities. Youll work closely with the production team to prevent fire hazards while supporting efficient lumber processing.
What You'll DoAs a Fire Watcher, you will be responsible for:
- Monitoring hot work areas such as welding, grinding, and cutting for potential fire hazards.
- Watering down critical zones to prevent ignition of sawdust or other combustible materials.
- Ensuring flammable materials are cleared or properly shielded before work begins.
- Staying alert during and after hot work to detect and respond to smoke or fire signs.
- Keeping fire prevention tools, including hoses and extinguishers, in good working order.
- Communicating safety issues or hazards promptly to supervisors.
- Following all fire safety protocols and assisting in fire prevention planning.
- Cleaning dust and debris in the basement and around production areas during shifts, and maintaining cleanliness around key equipment after each shift.
- Using downtime efficiently to focus on cleaning and minor maintenance tasks.
- Maintaining organized and safe workspaces at all times.
What You'll BringThe ideal candidate for this role will have:
- The ability to lift up to 50 lbs. consistently.
- Basic understanding of sawmill operations and safety practices.
- Strong ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently or as part of a team.
- Willingness to work overtime and adapt to shift needs.
- Comfort working in noisy, dusty, and physically demanding environments.
- A strong commitment to maintaining a safe and hazard-free workplace.

Location & Schedule:
This position is on-site in Eugene, Oregon, with shifts Wednesday through Sunday from 6:00AM to 4:30PM. Overtime and shift coverage are available as needed.
