    DETAILED STATEMENT OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Assist licensees with the creation of accounts and account maintenance on the MIRCS licensing Portal.
    • Monitor and maintain MIRCS serial number registry.
    • Prepare and review incoming non-resident firearms license applications.
    • Schedule and complete in-person interviews for non-resident firearms license applications.
    • Perform criminal record checks.
    • Conduct searches of all appropriate databases for firearm license or transaction information in response to requests from law enforcement agencies and public citizens.
    • Review criminal record checks of licenses for conformance to state and federal laws.
    • Perform related duties such as data entry; typing material; operating electronic data systems and applications containing various records and files; and assuring accuracy.
    • Assist law enforcement agencies and the public by providing information about firearms licensing and firearms law in Massachusetts.
    • Provide support of the Massachusetts Instant Record Check System (MIRCS) to local law enforcement agencies and firearms dealers.
    • Review and activation of MIRCS licenses.
    • Perform other duties as assigned by the Manager of the Firearms Records Bureau.

    QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED AT HIRE:

    • Ability to communicate ideas clearly to individuals and groups.
    • Ability to communicate effectively in oral or written form.
    • Strong organizational skills and ability to pay attention to detail.
    • Ability to gather information, analyze data collected, draw and present conclusions in oral or written form.
    • Ability to establish and maintain harmonious working relationships with others.
    • Proficiency in the use of the Microsoft Office suite of applications, particularly in the use of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

    MINIMUM ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS: Applicants must have at least (A) two years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, professional, administrative or managerial experience in business administration, business management or public administration the major duties of which involved program management, program administration, program coordination, program planning and/or program analysis, or (B) any equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below.

    Substitutions:

    I. A Bachelor''s or higher degree with a major in business administration, business management or public administration may be substituted for the required experience.*

    II. A Bachelor''s or higher degree with a major other than in business administration, business management or public administration may be substituted for a maximum of one year of the required experience.*

    • Education toward such a degree will be prorated on the basis of the proportion of the requirements actually completed.
