Annual Salaries are not inclusive of any automatic FLSA overtime for shift employees on a 56-hour workweek schedule.
Paramedic Incentive Information: Starting salary for State-certified Firefighter/Paramedic, after County-certified, is $67,825.
Pursuant to the current collective bargaining agreement, paramedics will receive a paramedic incentive of $4.64/hour for 56 hours per week, $6.50/hour for 40 hours per week, paid to newly hired and newly certified Paramedics the pay period after passing the practice parameters exam approved by the Seminole County Medical Director.

Internal Fire/EMS Skills Assessment: Candidates who submit all required paperwork and receive passing scores on both the CPAT and FireTEAM tests will be notified by email to sign up for our internal Fire/EMS Skills Assessment, which will take place on September 8-9, 2026.
Interview: Upon successful completion of the Internal Fire/EMS Skills Assessment, candidates will be scheduled for interviews on September 15-16, 2026. Please be prepared to provide two letters of recommendation at the interview.
Please note: If selected, candidate is required to complete New Employee Orientation - eight to ten weeks on a 40-hour workweek schedule. What the Seminole County Fire Department Offers:
SCFD provides fire, advanced life support and transport services to the residents and visitors of unincorporated Seminole County, as well as the cities of Altamonte Springs, Winter Springs, and Casselberry.
Essential Functions
Technical work involving the responsibility for the protection of life and property by combating, extinguishing and preventing fire damage, and responding to emergency medical incidents.
Position may be reassigned to meet the operational needs of the Department.
Note: These functions are essential and consistent with the operational mission of the Seminole County Fire Department and are based on the job performance requirements of NFPA 1001, with supporting guidance from NFPA 1500 and NFPA 1582.These are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work performed. This position is safety-sensitive and requires the ability to perform essential job functions in a manner that does not pose a direct threat to the employee, coworkers, or the public.
Responds to fire, rescue and emergency medical incidents in an assigned area as a member of an Engine, Tower, or Rescue Company.
Performs assigned duties in hazardous and Immediately Dangerous to Life and Health (IDLH) environments, including exposure to heat, smoke, toxic atmospheres, confined spaces, elevated surfaces, and limited visibility.
Enters burning buildings and removes and rescues persons from danger.
Administers Basic or Advanced Life Support and emergency medical assistance to sick or injured persons.
Connects hose lines and/or apparatus to hydrants or pumps, joins hose sections, connects nozzles, and operates nozzles in spraying water on fire.
Ventilates burning buildings.
Operates hand fire extinguisher and similar equipment.
Raises, climbs, and lowers ladders.
Performs salvage and overhaul operations.
Must be able to wear and operate in full personal protective equipment (PPE), including self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA), while performing physically demanding emergency operations.
Drives emergency fire apparatus in responding to fire and rescue incidents.
Operates pumps to maintain adequate water volume and pressure.
Engages in pre-fire planning and inspection of commercial establishments in assigned areas.
Participates in instruction/training sessions in subjects of firefighting methods, equipment operation, emergency medical care, and/or geographical information.
May participate as member of special team (dive, extrication team, hazardous materials team, etc.)
Performs maintenance cleaning tasks in and about assigned station.
Performs related duties, such as inventory assessment and map book preparation.
May act in the capacity of a certified paramedic if so certified and authorized by the Fire Department.
Performs other duties as assigned, including, but not limited to, reassignments or rotations.
In the event of an emergency, all employees are considered essential personnel and may be required to perform alternate duties.
Minimum Qualifications
Considerable knowledge of street/road system and geography of Seminole County and a working knowledge of firefighting and emergency medical procedures.
Ability to clearly, concisely, and effectively communicate orally and in writing during emergency and non-emergency operations, including the ability to receive, interpret, and relay instructions, information, and status updates under stressful, time-sensitive, and hazardous conditions.
Ability to react quickly and calmly in emergency situations.
Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with associates and the general public.
Ability to perform prolonged, physically demanding work under adverse and emergency conditions, including sustained operations as part of an emergency response team.
High School Diploma or GED.
Must possess a Firefighter II certificate of Compliance issued by the Florida Division of State Fire Marshal.
Must possess and maintain Emergency Medical Technician certification issued by the Florida Department of Health.
If incumbent is authorized and designated to work in the capacity of a paramedic, must possess and maintain certification as a paramedic as designated by the State of Florida and the Fire Department.
Must meet and be able to continuously maintain the physical agility requirements as administered by the Fire Department.
New hires must have abstained from the use of tobacco products for twelve months prior to application with Seminole County (Florida Statute Section 633.34).
A comparable amount of education, training, or experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.
Additional Requirements
Required to maintain a valid Florida Drivers License.
All employees must attend Seminole County Required Trainings.
Department Specific trainings per position may be required.

County-paid benefits for bargaining unit employees
Competitive Wages: As negotiated and stipulated in the bargaining unit agreement.
Paid Time Off: New employees accrue 23 hours per month of Paid Time Off (PTO) if working 2,912 hours per year (56 hours per week); 12.4 hours per month of Paid Time Off (PTO) if working 2,080 hours per year (40 hours per week).
Paid Holidays: We observe 12 paid holidays which includes an employee birthday holiday and a floating Work/Life Day.
Bereavement Leave: Employees may receive up to one week paid leave per fiscal year for absence due to the death of an immediate family member.
Florida Retirement System: All employees in regularly established positions are automatically covered from the first day of employment. Seminole County makes contribution on behalf of the employee and the employee is also required to make a 3% contribution.
