Firefighter - EMT

Position Summary
Under general supervision, controls and extinguishes fires, conducts search and rescue missions, responds to medical emergencies, and administers life saving measures. Responds to medical and fire emergencies, treats patients, operates a variety of fire apparatus and vehicles, assists in the investigation of fires, participates in equipment testing and training activities, and compiles and maintains reports and records.

Required Education and Experience:
High school diploma or GED equivalent and possession of required certifications; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Required Licenses, Certifications, and Equipment:
Must possess a Texas Commission on Fire Protection Basic Firefighter certification (TCFP).
Must possess a Department of State Health Services Basic Emergency Medical Technician certification (DSHS).
Must possess a valid Texas Class B driver’s license or obtain license within six (6) months of hire.

Work is performed at City Fire Stations and emergency scenes and requires exposure to extreme weather and temperature, life threatening situations, hazardous chemicals, bodily fluids, and heights. Must maintain a level of physical fitness to adequately complete all job assignments. Operates fire apparatus and fire suppression, EMT, and personal protective equipment.

Starting Salary: 
$57,128  Annually, $58,842 Annually after 6 months after successful six-month probation.  Annual step increases.
