Torrance Fire Department (TFD) is dedicated to protecting and providing for life safety, environmental protection, and property conservation through education, hazard reduction, and emergency response.
The Torrance Fire Department is a nationally recognized ISO Class 1 premier all-risk public safety organization and a Center for Public Safety (CPSE) Accredited Agency. The
City of Torrance takes great pride in the quality of its staff, stations, and equipment. The Department provides 24-hour "all-risk" safety service by staffing seven engine companies, two truck companies, five paramedic rescue units, and a Basic Life Support Ambulance service. These resources are geographically distributed throughout the City's six fire stations and are commanded by a shift Battalion Chief. The same personnel and apparatus are available to respond to all other types of emergency incidents. Cross discipline of these resources gives us a rapid response to all types of incidents throughout the City.

The title of Fire Recruit is utilized during the 14 week Torrance Fire Department training program. The salary during the 14 week training program is $8,169.20/month (eff. 1/10/2027). Upon successful completion of the training program, the Fire Recruit will transition to the position of Firefighter (eff. 1/10/2027 starting pay $9,010.21). The training program will begin in February 2027.
