Description

Position Overview: The Firefighter/Paramedic plays a vital role in the Village of Los Lunas Fire Department, delivering emergency and non-emergency services to the community. This position requires advanced emergency medical skills, including paramedic-level care, as well as firefighting expertise to respond effectively to a wide range of incidents. Firefighter/Paramedics also engage in data entry and public relations activities, serving as a valuable resource for citizens and visitors.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Respond promptly to emergency calls, including fires, medical emergencies, accidents, and other incidents.
  • Administer advanced life support (ALS) care to patients, including assessing their condition, providing advanced medical interventions, and initiating treatment protocols.
  • Operate advanced medical equipment, such as cardiac monitors, defibrillators, intravenous (IV) equipment, and advanced airway management devices.
  • Provide compassionate and skilled care to patients while transporting them to medical facilities.
  • Engage in fire suppression efforts, including operating firefighting equipment, hoses, and tools.
  • Perform search and rescue operations during emergency situations.
  • Conduct fire prevention and safety education programs within the community.
  • Perform data entry tasks related to incident reports, patient records, equipment maintenance, and department documentation.
  • Actively engage in public relations activities by offering information, assistance, and education to citizens and visitors.
  • Maintain and inspect firefighting equipment, vehicles, and medical supplies.
  • Adhere to departmental policies, procedures, and safety protocols.
  • Participate in training sessions, drills, and continuing education programs to stay current with firefighting and EMS practices.
  • Collaborate with team members to ensure efficient emergency response and community safety.
  • Keep the workspace and equipment clean and organized.
  • Follow a departmental schedule, including shift work, on-call duties, and training sessions.
  • Foster a positive and professional work environment within the fire department.
  • Demonstrate professionalism, integrity, and dedication to serving the community.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED certificate.
  • Post-secondary education equivalent to less than a bachelors degree.
  • EMT-Paramedic (EMT-P) certification/licensure.
  • Valid BLS CPR card.
  • Current Class E Drivers License.
  • Haz-Mat Awareness/Operations certification (40-hour course).
  • Fire Apparatus Driver Operator EVD certification (24-hour course).
  • Technical Rescuer: Vehicle & Machinery I certification (32-hour course).
  • Firefighter I/II Combo certification (120-hour course).
  • S130/190 Wildland Fire Behavior certification (8-hour course).
  • Ability to pass a background check and meet departmental requirements for employment.
