We are seeking a highly experienced First Article Inspector to support a high-quality aerospace manufacturing operation in Carson, CA. This role is responsible for conducting and documenting First Article Inspections (FAI) to ensure parts and assemblies meet engineering requirements and customer standards. The ideal candidate is detail-driven, hands-on, and confident working in a regulated environment where precision and documentation are critical.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform complete First Article Inspections in accordance with AS9102 requirements and customer specifications
- Review engineering drawings, specifications, purchase orders, and quality requirements to ensure full compliance
- Validate dimensional and functional requirements using precision measuring tools (calipers, micrometers, height gauges, indicators, pins, etc.) and inspection equipment as required
- Generate and maintain FAI packages including all forms, ballooned drawings, material certs, process certs, and traceability documentation
- Identify nonconformances, document findings, and coordinate with Quality and Manufacturing on resolution and corrective actions
- Support internal and customer audits by providing inspection records, objective evidence, and process traceability
- Collaborate with Engineering, Production, and Quality teams to ensure first-article readiness and smooth release to production
- Maintain accurate records in accordance with AS9100 and company quality procedures
Required Qualifications
- 15+ years of aerospace First Article Inspection experience (required)
- Strong knowledge of AS9102, AS9100, and aerospace quality systems
- Expert ability to read and interpret complex blueprints, GD&T, and engineering specifications
- Proven experience building and reviewing FAI packages (including ballooning and traceability)
- Strong understanding of manufacturing processes (machining, sheet metal, assemblies; special processes a plus)
- Excellent attention to detail and documentation discipline
- Able to work independently, prioritize workload, and communicate clearly across teams
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with CMM operation/program interpretation (if applicable)
- Experience with FAIR software or electronic QMS/ERP systems
- Experience supporting customer audits and source inspections (e.g., Boeing, Airbus, Lockheed, Northrop, Raytheon, Space customers)
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, bend, and work on the floor as needed
- Ability to lift up to [X] lbs occasionally (if applicable)
