Monadnock Family Services

Description:

The First Episode Psychosis (FEP) Family Therapist is a master’s-level clinical role within the First Episode Psychosis (FEP) program, requiring licensure or eligibility for licensure in New Hampshire. This position specializes in family-focused clinical support and education for family members and natural supports of individuals experiencing early psychosis. The role is grounded in recovery-oriented, trauma-informed, and evidence-informed practices consistent with Coordinated Specialty Care (CSC) principles.

The FEP Family Therapist functions as a dedicated family-based clinician within an interdisciplinary FEP team, working in parallel with individual therapists, prescribers, and other team members. This role provides structured family psychoeducation and therapeutic support, strengthens communication and problem-solving skills, and helps families navigate the challenges associated with early psychosis. The clinician collaborates in shared assessment, treatment planning, and ongoing clinical decision-making while maintaining a distinct family-focused scope of practice.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide family-focused clinical support, including ongoing and/or time-limited family sessions, based on participant and family needs.
  • Deliver structured family psychoeducation related to psychosis, treatment approaches, relapse prevention, and recovery expectations.
  • Utilize family systems–informed and evidence-based approaches to support communication, problem-solving, coping strategies, and shared decision-making.
  • Assist families in understanding symptoms, treatment options, and the role of family support in recovery.
  • Collaborate with other FEP team members as needed to ensure coordinated, family-inclusive care.

Professional Expectations

  • Participate in required trainings, clinical supervision consistent with FEP program standards, and program evaluation or quality assurance activities.
  • Maintain trauma-informed, recovery-based language in both written and verbal communication.

Documentation, Compliance & Quality Assurance

  • Maintain accurate, timely, and professional clinical and case management documentation in accordance with agency policy, Medicaid requirements, regulatory standards, and funding requirements.
  • Track family engagement activities for reporting, quality improvement, and program monitoring purposes.
  • Use electronic medical record systems for documentation, scheduling, billing support, and time management.
  • Adhere to all HIPAA and confidentiality requirements, ensuring protection of clients’ protected health information (PHI).
  • Comply with OSHA standards and agency safety policies, including infection control procedures, bloodborne pathogen precautions, and workplace safety protocols.
Requirements:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s degree in social work, counseling, psychology, marriage and family therapy, or a closely related clinical field.
  • Fully licensed in New Hampshire or eligible for New Hampshire clinical licensure.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of relevant clinical experience, including family-based clinical work and/or experience working with individuals experiencing first episode psychosis or early serious mental illness.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide family psychoeducation and clinical support within a mental health setting.
  • Strong clinical judgment, interpersonal skills, and ability to engage families in therapeutic relationships.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within an interdisciplinary, team-based model of care.
  • Experience with clinical documentation and adherence to ethical, professional, and regulatory standards.

Preferred

  • Experience in early psychosis programs, Coordinated Specialty Care (CSC), or recovery-oriented services.
  • Familiarity with family psychoeducation, systems-based approaches, and trauma-informed care.
  • Experience working with diverse populations and applying culturally responsive practices.
  • Comfort facilitating groups or family-based educational sessions.

OTHER EXPECTATIONS

  • Maintain a valid driver’s license, acceptable driving record, proof of auto insurance, and reliable transportation.
  • Transport clients in a personal vehicle when required and appropriate, in accordance with agency policy.
