    Job Requirements

    POSITION SUMMARY

    The Flight RN BSN is fully engaged in the transportation of pre-hospital and inter-facility patients for definitive care and maintains positive relationships with area hospitals, physicians, EMS agencies, and the general public. The Flight RN provides high quality nursing care including assessment, triage, and treatment utilizing standards and guidelines established by First Flight to establish and prioritize the care needed for safe transport of the critical patient to the appropriate facility.

    PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITES

    • Collaborates with physicians and other departments in determining patient needs for nursing care and treatment planning. Actively listens in order to identify problems.
    • Serves as a role model, educator and clinical resource. Participates in special projects or performs other duties as assigned.
    • Communicates educational needs to the Flight Program Nurse Manager.
    • Demonstrates an understanding of emergency procedures and First Flight safety requirements; maintains a hazard free work environment.
    • Anticipates change for patient care, department and organizational needs.
    • Facilitates communication among department Director, Flight Program Nurse Manager, Managers, nursing staff and other ancillary departments.
    • Participates in Performance Improvement and Quality Assurance.
    • Collaborates with the Flight Program Nurse Manager to ensure flight team compliance with guidelines of accrediting and regulatory agencies, flight team standards of care and practice, and organization policies and procedures.
    • Demonstrates age-specific skill competency in clinical practice environment.
    • Demonstrates dependability and reliability in completing work assignments and exhibits good work habits and decorum with respect to attendance.
    • Available to meet critical operational demands.
    • Assists the Flight Program Nurse Manager in the selection, development and retention of staff.

    Work Experience

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    • Education: Bachelor's degree in Nursing.
    • Work Experience:
    • Minimum of three (3) years of Critical Care/Emergency Department experience OR
    • Previous rotor wing experience.
    • Licensure: RN Licensure in the State of Florida or endorsement.
    • Certification:
    • National or State of Florida Paramedic Certification prior to start date and maintained.
    • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (AHA BLS) Healthcare Provider Completion Card prior to start date and maintained.
    • American Heart Association Advanced Cardiac Life Support (AHA ACLS) Healthcare Provider Completion Card prior to start date and maintained.
    • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) OR Emergency Nurse Pediatric Course (ENPC) prior to start date or maintained.
    • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) within six (6) months of start date and maintained.
    • Must obtain one of the following within six (6) months of start date and maintained:
    • Trauma Nurse Core Course Certification (TNCC).
    • Advanced Trauma Care for Nurses (ATCN).
    • Transport Nurse Advanced Trauma Course (TNATC).
    • Department of Transportation Air Medical Crew Core Curriculum certificate within six (6) months of start date and maintained.
    • Must obtain one of the following within one (1) year of start date and maintained:
    • Certified Emergency Nurse (CEN).
    • Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN).
    • Trauma Certified Registered Nurse (TCRN).
    • Certified Flight Registered Nurse (CFRN).
    • Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office - Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
    • Ability to work autonomously with minimal supervision.
    • Strong critical thinking skills.
    • Strong communication skills and professional presence.
    • Ability to maintain composure in a stressful field environment.
    • Ability to operate multiple band radio communication systems.
    • Ability to work with complex medical equipment.

    PREFFERED QUALIFICATIONS

    • Work Experience:
    • Rotor Wing for Fixed Wing Critical Care Transport.
    • Ground Critical Care Transport
    • Minimum of five-hundred (500) hours experience as a paramedic with Advanced Life Support (ALS) agency.
    • Certification:
    • Critical Care Transport (FP-C).
    • FCCS / PFCCS.
    • Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:
    • Proficiency with GPS navigation.
    • EMS tailored EMR/PCR.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

    • Physically agile; requires walking, standing, running, bending, stooping, kneeling, climbing, or crouching majority of the shift.
    • Heavy work that frequently includes lifting or moving objects up to 100 pounds or more with or without assistance.
    • May require moving self in different positions to accomplish tasks in various environments including tight and confined spaces, including reaching out and above shoulders or overhead.
    • May lift, turn, pull, push, or ambulate people and/or equipment with or without assistance up to 90% of the assigned shift.
    • May be exposed to inside environments and outside environments with extreme temperatures, air contamination, dirt, grease, or water.
    • May require working with biohazards such as blood/body fluids and airborne particles following OSHA and CDC guidelines.
    • May operate various types of manual and motorized equipment used in the transportation of materials.
    • May be exposed to intense noise or vibration and awkward or confined work position.
    • Communicating with others to exchange information.
    • Visual acuity and hand-eye coordination to perform tasks.
    • Workspace may vary from open to confined.
    • May require travel to various facilities within and beyond county perimeter; may require use of personal vehicle.
