    Job Summary

    The University of North Georgia is accepting applications for a First Year Experience (FYE) Peer Mentor- Institutional Student Worker on the Cumming Campus. The First Year Experience (FYE) Peer Mentor supports new students in their transition to college by serving as role models, facilitators, and guides within UNG 1101 courses, helping students develop essential skills such as time management, goal setting, and campus navigation.

    Responsibilities

    • Complete required training to prepare for Peer Mentor Role
    • Attend and actively participate in assigned UNG 1101 course once per week (50 minutes)
    • Facilitate discussions, activities, and student engagement within the classroom
    • Serve as a peer role model by demonstrating strong academic behaviors and campus involvement
    • Meet weekly with assigned course instructor to plan lessons, review student needs, and receive feedback
    • Provide guidance on academic success strategies (time management, study skills, goal setting, resource utilization)
    • Support student transition by connecting peers to campus services and opportunities
    • Maintain a visible, approachable, and supportive presence for first-year students
    • Submit a weekly report documenting class activities, student engagement, and key observations
    • Assist with outreach, communication, and program support efforts as needed

    • Knowledge of campus resources and student support services
    • Strong interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills
    • Ability to facilitate group discussions and engage with diverse student populations
    • Demonstrated responsibility, professionalism, and time management.
    • Desire to mentor and support first-year students
    • Ability to lead interactive activities and discussions
    • Positive attitude and commitment to student success
    • Willingness to learn, receive feedback, and collaborate with faculty/staff management

    Required Qualifications

    • Must be enrolled at the University of North Georgia in a minimum of six (6) credit hours to qualify as a student worker.
    • Good academic and conduct standing
    • Minimum 2.75 GPA preferred
    • Previous experience and training in a campus leadership or a student employment position
