Position Overview
Reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), the Fiscal Manager is responsible for managing the General Ledger close and overseeing financial reporting. In this role, you will help oversee Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and Grant/Project management processes. You will ensure that all financial records are maintained in accordance with prescribed agency procedures, Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), and applicable local, state, and federal contractual regulations. Additionally, you will prepare accurate and timely financial, budget, and reporting information for use by program management, funding sources, auditors, and the Board of Directors.
  • Department Leadership: Oversee the day-to-day operations of the fiscal office, providing hands-on support and guidance to staff to effectively manage the agency's grant and fiscal activities.
  • Financial Management: Manage the general ledger and lead the month-end closing process. Assist in preparing audit schedules and interface with external auditors and reviewers as directed by the CFO.
  • Cost Allocation: Oversee the payroll cost allocation process. Ensure proper procedures are in place to allocate payroll costs and invoices to the correct contracts, accounts, and budgets in compliance with all regulatory standards.
  • Budget Reporting & Analysis: Collaborate with fiscal staff to prepare monthly budget-versus-actual reports for each program. Review and analyze results with program managers and the CFO to proactively control costs, allocate funds properly, and maximize budgets.
  • Grant & Contract Support: Assist the CFO in preparing annual program budgets, funding source budgets, and required internal and external reports. Maintain up-to-date budget information in the accounting system, and work closely with Program Managers and the CFO to file new and renewal grant applications and amendments.
  • Presentations & Data: Assist the CFO in preparing presentation materials for the Finance Committee and help prepare agency-wide data collection reports.
  • Policy Implementation: Under the CFO's direction, maintain, update, and implement written fiscal policies and procedures, recommending improvements as needed. Maintain accounting systems and implement new modules when required.
  • Additional Duties: Perform other duties as deemed necessary by the CFO to support the agency's fiscal goals.
  • Education & Knowledge: A Bachelor's Degree in Accounting is required. You must have hands-on knowledge of finance, not-for-profit accounting, budgeting, and cost control principles, including GAAP, state and federal contract compliance, and grants management.
  • Experience: A minimum of five years of previous experience in an accounting position.
  • Core Skills: Highly analytical, detail-oriented, and organized.
  • Communication & Leadership: Professional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to motivate others while managing multiple time-sensitive projects. You must be able to analyze financial data and prepare meaningful reports.
  • Technical Proficiency: Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint) and the ability to effectively use BlackBaud accounting software.
  • Mission Alignment: Demonstrated commitment to advancing the agency's mission and working with people from diverse economic backgrounds.
