What we need:

We are seeking energetic, passionate people who enjoy the outdoors and want to play a key role for two (2) Fisheries Biologist 2 positions within the Division of Wildlife.

  • One position (PN 20058931) will be headquartered in Hancock County at the District 2 Headquarters. The address is 952 Lima Avenue Findlay, Ohio 45840.
  • One position (PN 20061001) will be headquartered in Athens County at the District 4 Headquarters. The address is 360 East State Street Athens, Ohio 45701.

What you will do…

  • Principle investigator of field surveys and research of aquatic organisms (e.g., fish, crayfish, freshwater mussels), invasive species monitoring and control, and aquatic habitat and water quality assessment.
  • Participates in fish management research projects across rivers, streams, lakes, and reservoirs, involving fish age/growth, population dynamics, recruitment, mortality, exploitation, stocking strategies, and regulation effects.
  • Determines project needs, staffing, equipment, scheduling, and budgets; prepares technical reports and management recommendations; contributes to strategic, tactical, and operational planning.
  • Collates biological and environmental data using statistical methods, develops and maintains computer files and analytical tools, interprets statistical outcomes, and prepares scientific reports, publications, and presentations for internal, public and scientific meetings.
  • Works with stakeholders and inter-agency teams on aquatic organisms and habitat restoration and protection projects (e.g., species recovery, dam removal, riparian corridor protection, water quality improvements), aquatic invasive species projects (e.g., prevention, early detection, control, outreach), supporting initiatives funded through external grant programs; represents the division on committees.
  • Starting hourly pay of $28.76/hr with multiple pay increases over your first 5.5 years of service, with an end salary of $38.01/hr.

Completion of undergraduate core program in fisheries science AND 24 mos. trg. or 24 mos. exp. in management & coordination of fisheries projects.

  • Or completion of graduate core program in biological sciences to include 6 courses in fisheries science & 2 courses in statistics; (e.g., fisheries management, fishery techniques, limnology, ichthyology, fish biology, fish ecology, aquatic entomology), 6 mos. trg. or 6 mos. exp. in management & coordination of fisheries projects.
  • Or completion of graduate core program in fisheries science AND 6 mos. trg. or 6 mos. exp. in management & coordination of fisheries projects.
  • 24 mos. trg. or 24 mos. exp. as Fisheries Biologist 1, 22271.
  • Or equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications For Employment noted above.
