We are looking for an energetic Fitness Assistant to join our team! The Fitness Assistant organizes and implements programs designed to meet the individual needs of our residents. The program is intended to fulfill basic physical, while promoting self-esteem in a caring, nurturing environment. The Fitness Assistant also supports and assists the Activity Director during weekend programs.

Responsibilities

  • Creates and conducts group exercise classes, including water classes where applicable.
  • Instructs residents on the safe and effective use of fitness equipment.
  • Develops customized exercise programs, equipment rotations, and fitness routines for individual residents and works one-on-one with residents to monitor progress and support compliance.
  • Identifies relevant wellness activities, seminars, outings, and events to promote wellness through a variety of formats.
  • Promotes community events, programs, activities, and social opportunities to ensure maximum participation.
  • Seeks input from residents and stays abreast of relevant literature to continuously update and enhance wellness programs that will appeal to a broad range of residents.
  • Participates in and attends all required in-service training and education programs as scheduled.
  • Leads and implements one-on-one, small group and large group activities according to the programming schedule.
  • Supports, encourages and directs independent activity pursuits, both individually and in small groups.
  • Supports the residents' abilities by understanding their needs and desires as well as limitations.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Must have a high school diploma, bachelor's degree or equivalent experience and knowledge of aging and disability issues. Must be qualified by experience and training to develop programs appropriate for elders and disabled individuals
  • Possesses training and knowledge in recreational activities
  • Shows familiarity and experience using a wide variety of equipment related to recreational programs
  • Maintains a high level of confidentiality regarding residents, staff, and the community.
  • Shows a consistent ability to coordinate multiple tasks, demonstrates a positive attitude, and works well under pressure
